This very cosy place is situated in the historical fortress of Lappeenranta. The house itself was built in the middle of the 19th century and used to be the home of Russian officers before Finland got its independence, later it was a hospital and then an umbrella factory moved in. Too bad it was closed when I passed on New Year, I would have liked...

  • Fly

Lappeenranta is about 250 km from Helsinki, you can drive there and you can take a train. The view on the way to Lappeenranta is not very special, the best starts actually after you get there so you can also fly in domestic flight and get there much quicker.

  • Market Place in Lappeenranta

The atmosphere at the Market Place is intimate, and it is the right place for meeting authentic Karelian people. Between shopping, try the local delicacies on the coffee stalls. Try the famous burgers called "Vety (Hydrogen)" and "Atomi (Atom)". You get the original ones only in Lappeenranta. Approximately 3 euros per burger.
