Nuuksio Things to Do

  • Hiking

Obviously people come here to do some hiking, there are few marks treks, 2, 4 or 7 km. All are easy to walk and often you will see the whole family with very small children walking here. You do not need any special preparations or to be in any good conditions to do hiking here, everyone can do it.

  • Visit the Nuuksio National Park

Well, this is not a town or a village, it is a real National Park which mean when you come to visit here, after you enter the park and pass this spot where is the office (and a place to buy drink or coffee) you are in the wilderness and all alone in the forest.

  • Visit Nuuksio in the winter

It is also possible to visit this beautiful park in the winter. Just be aware that some tracks will be ice covered and slippery so be prepared with the right shoes and winter gear for the appropriate weather.

Nothing sweeter nothing tastier nothing healthier than fresh berries - hand-picked.

    Try'em - love'em!

Favorite Dish: Please remember: in Finalnd the every man's right guarantees you the right to pluck berries in every Finnish wood!

Nuuksio Transportation

  • Car or bus

Obviously I come here with my own car. But if you are a tourist and need to use public transport it is not that easy but still it is possible. From Helsinki you take the commuter train to Espoo center and from there bus no. 85 and ask the bus driver to tell you when to get off for Nuuksio park. Its a short ride, maybe about 15 minutes.

It pretty easy to reach Nuuksio from hte greater area of Helsinki. If you come by car you will most probably want to drive on interstate #1 and leave at Nupuri. Here you follow the signs to Haukkalampi and Nuuksio... until you reach Haukkalampi parking area.Your options to arrive by bus are quite good. You can take either 28T or 28A or 85 or 85A...

Hidden well in the deep and wild forests are mysterious freakish anomalies of nature, hehehe.

If you believe what was true in the "old days" and I don't mean your father's (oh, when we were young...), no, I'm referring to little earlier times, then these sorts of round and deep holes in solid rocks could have been made only by something like the hiisi - as strong and cunning.

Originally in finnish folklore a hiisi was not a bad spirit nor a gobblin, but only with Christianity these pagan believes and symbols were turned into peorative and evil monsters.

Indeed these holes are quite appealing to one's illusion.

Nuuksio Favorites

  • up the hills and cliffs

Nuuskio as all of Finland is rather flat, so you won't see much but pine, birch and aspen trees. Theresore I always will seek some higher ground to get perspective and some sort of over view. Here are the spots to hang out for a while, let down your heavy backpack and explore the close vicinity. Sometimes you get to see imposant clouds like this...
