In Porvoo we were lucky enough to meet a famous local VT member, who showed us around and even led us to the hidden gems of the local cuisine.
"Nakkeja, pikkulämpimiä" is a Snack Bar, which is known as "Nakki Kustaa" among the locals.
I ordered a Lihapiirakka which is a warm minced meat pie with homemade mustard.
My Finnish VT friends had Nakkis (Nakkimakkara), which are Frankfurter Sausages with ketchup and homemade mustard. This is really unique restaurant.
The food they do is mixed (Mediterranean, French, Finnish food and some Eastern influence...). It is quite expensive but highly appreciated. This restaurant was chosen among the best restaurants in Finland
Normally, at summer time I enjoy a cider on their terrace, which has a beautiful view down to the river Porvoo (as the restaurant is situated up on a hill). Don't miss the view! At winter you'll have to enjoy your dinner inside tho'.

If you are looking for good food and good value for money, this is your place.
It is perfectly located in the old town and it has around 60 seats.
They do lunches and have a menu. It is not a gourmet-place but the food is good. Typical Finnish home made food plus escalope of veal etc. Their webpage is only in Finnish and Swedish but I added it here anyway. Leave a Comment

Porvoon Paahtimo is located by the river and next to the bridge. You can not miss the red tile, four floor storehouse when entering to Porvoo from Helsinki.
Summer or winter this bar&cafe has a special athmosphere! It is not a typical Finnish style cafe but it is worth a visit if you fancy a cappuccino, cafe latte, beer or a cider.
At winter my favorite drink is a hot chocolate with 2cl mint liqueur. It is so nice to get out of the cold weather and darkness into a this Warm, cosy, red tile bar&cafe!
At summer time (may - august) my choise is a cider on the terrace or on their "terrace boat" .

Delicious cakes, sandwiches...
The "cafe" is in an old wooden house, which makes the ambience special. It is crowded on especially on winter Sundays. At summertime it is very popular also.
At summer time they have a terrace outside and it is at the back yard in between the old wooden houses.

Maybe this place called Old Town Café, but this is a modern coffeehouse in the edge of the modern city just to the entrance of the old city.

I must admit that we didn't eat here, but at least we had a close look at the restaurant from the inside and outside.
The restaurant building is an old wooden log house from the 18th century, therefore the rooms offer a special historical atmosphere. In summer time the terrace invites people for a rest. It was Gil's choice and propbaly the best we could get in Porvoo.
A nice restaurant, pardon! ravintola, which is situated very close to the cathidral, on a hill. Very old place and very delicious cooking.
That day we ordered fish of the day, a here is what we got, a melting in the mouth pike in cream souse..... yuuuummm! Leave a Comment
