In Porvoo we were lucky enough to meet a famous local VT member, who showed us around and even led us to the hidden gems of the local cuisine.
"Nakkeja, pikkulämpimiä" is a Snack Bar, which is known as "Nakki Kustaa" among the locals.
I ordered a Lihapiirakka which is a warm minced meat pie with homemade mustard.
My Finnish VT friends had Nakkis (Nakkimakkara), which are Frankfurter Sausages with ketchup and homemade mustard.
UPDATE 2011: Unfortunately Nakki Kustaa has closed down now.

This is a cafe, but they also serve good value of beer and cider, and have a lovely terrace over the water. At cold nights you can have a blanket and there are gas-heaters also.
They make their own coffee, and many different blends. They also have flavored teas, that they spice up themselves. It is really nice place.Last time I thought, that there´s a terrible smoke, but luckily it isn´t allowed to smoke inside anymore.
WONDERFUL VIEW!
Favorite Dish: My favourite dish here?Hmm..Dark beer..I´m not sure if they had any other to eat than peanuts or something sweet at daytime.I´m not sure about it.

Delicious cakes, sandwiches...
The "cafe" is in an old wooden house, which makes the ambience special. It is crowded on especially on winter Sundays. At summertime it is very popular also.
At summer time they have a terrace outside and it is at the back yard in between the old wooden houses.
Their webpages are only in Finnish for the time being but maybe you want to check them out? Therefore their webaddress is here, for you.
Favorite Dish: Any cake they have! As they all, to my understanding, are made there.

The building is located beside the curch.
A very "romantic" restaurang built in the year 1657 with good food with very good quality.
The rolling stone guys and clinton's wife visited this place when they where in Finland.

Much cheaper than those in Old town, lunch menu is great, and if you want just a snack then I highly recommend pie with salad. Really tasty!
Favorite Dish: And the cakes, probably the best cakes in Finland!! Locals buy these cakes for every occation.

This Café Helmi is classic old tea and coffee house. It is located in the heart of the old town and in the summer you can sit outside in the backyard terrace relax and give some rest to your feet.
I've been here many times including a time with few VT visitors as in the photo here.

If you want to try a real common Finnish restaurant without any style, you can try this one. It is popular and crowded and here the it is self service more like a canteen, they have the most common and typical Finnish and it is suitable for families and large groups.

This is probably the best classic and one of the oldest restaurants in Porvoo. It is just across form the famous Porvoo Cathedral. We been here with two VT friends and tasted from the classic and traditional Finnish menu. They also have great selections of wines to chose from.
