Park your car on the big car park next to the river, cross the bridge and enjoy the old time atmosphere of Porvoo's old town. There's wooden houses, little warehouses at the river, little shops, cafes and a church. Very beautiful!

Take your time to walk around in the old city, see the old houses, get in and visit the antics & other shops, sit for a while in a café, visit the church in the top of the hill and take your lunch break in one of the nice restaurants

The whole old town was covered with these cobblestones so I advice wear the reasonable shoes when you walk there otherwise you might have problems. You can almost hear the echos from past. Horses passing the houses, the clatter of the hoofs. Well you can hear it even now. There are Horse cab which will take you to the tour of old town if you want to.

Walk around the Old Town. You see the glimpse of history. In this building Alexander I , the Czar of Russia, lived while he was in Porvoo and convened the Diet in Porvoo in 1809. This was an important cornerstone in the history of Finland, starting the progress towards independence. As a result of the Porvoo Diet, Finland was allowed to keep its religion, its constitution dating from the Swedish era, and the rights of its estates.

The downtown Porvoo is very lively, with many shops and market stands. It’s located right next to the hanseatic houses.
