I was lucky enough to get a lift from Helsinki to Porvoo by a famous Finnish VT member. Porvoo is located at a distance of about 50 km from Helsinki.
A trip by car along the Eastern motorway E18 takes about 45 minutes. On the way you will even come across a street sign which shows the distance to St. Petersburg in Russia.
The easiest way to get to Porvoo from Helsinki is a bus and it takes only 55 minutes! The prices should be less than 10 euros - one way.
But do take a look at the other tip as well, especially if you are coming at summer time. One way of coming to Porvoo is by a boat, which leaves from Helsinki as well.

Porvoo is a municipality situated on the southern coast of Finland approximately 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Helsinki. The town received its name from a Swedish earth fortress near the river Porvoonjoki which flows through the town (Swedish Borgå, borg meaning castle and å river).
Porvoo is best explored on foot. The main tourist sights can be found in the Old Town and at the embankment of the river Porvoo.
Just make sure, to wear proper shoes, which are suitable for small cobbled alleys and streets.
