This is the new pub in Tampere, and as the name can tell, they have lots of special beers. They are going to open their own micro brewery at spring 2012. I will wait it with a big intrest.
Sadly the place is little seperate from most pubs, but on the other hand it´s not so far from award-winning Tuulensuu pub. When the winter has gone, it will feel less far away. ;)
I´m not sure what I would say about how it looks, maybe it´s little confused. The staff was looking little lost also, but it has been open only few weeks, so I´m sure it will change once they get used to their new job.
We will surely make this one of our "must places" when we go out. Espesially when they will open the brewery!!
Sorry about the poor photo. It´s taken with a cellphone camera.
Dress Code: Absolutely none! ;)

Laterna is also a dining place, but we have never eaten there. When we moved to Tampere,it was the best rock-club.Then it was renovated, and after that it has been different at different nights. We are too lazy to find out what on today,so we haven´t been there for a while.
They have tango-nights,gothic-festivals and one night envents, alternative pop nights and a festival-can´t remeber the name-sorry.
Sometimes when we went there,it was "iskelmä"-playing.I have no idea what to call it in English, but I can tell you, that at those nigt there´s more over 50years old people than usually.Nothing wrong with them of course!Just dont make me listen that music..
Downstairs there´s Valo,at photo it is on the left. It´s a pub and cafe(debending the time of the day). It´s quite nice, and theres all sorts of people. They have sometimes art-shows on the walls.Photos and such.
Dress Code: Dresscode varies from theme of the night. At pop-party,you can go looking"grunge",but at Gothic-nights go first to Backstreet-store(see my shopping-tips).Or just take black t-shirt and jeans, and that´s o.k.for both.

This is quite typical Finnish pub,but they are specailised in drink names in "Tampere language".Most famous is "Mansen tekila",witch is little like teguila(very little) it has piece of black sausage( musta makkara),lingonberry and Koskenkorva(=kind of vodka, there is no English word to what it is.We call it viina, but in English they say vodka, even if it really isn´t a vodka-but quite similar).
That drink is terrible, but fun of course.I prefer not have anything with musta makkara! It´s discusting!
Dress Code: No dresscode.I´ve heard that there is quite a lot of motorcycle men these days.I haven´t been there for a while.

Pub Pikilinna is an Irish type, cosy and friendly place with an excellent selection of beers. They also serve toasts.
Often there's sports on the screen and sunny terrace on the summertime. The greatest staff makes you feel homey.
Opening hours: mon - fri 15.00 - 02.00, sat - sun 12.00 - 02.00

This very centrally located Irish/Scottish pub does not seems to attract as many guests as O’Connell’s, but is not bad at all. Perhaps its reputation comes from the fact that it is part of a restaurant chain called Ravintola, but the only pub of its kind within that company. Or did it seem that way just because construction works were going on in the building and the pub looked like it was not open? Especially, if you are there to watch a Premier League match, I would prefer it over other Irish pubs (O’Connell’s or O’Hara) due to the better visibilty of the screen. Audience is mixed, some students and some guys in their mid-thirties were there. Pub food with Irish and Scottish Dishes is available, but I didn’t try any of it. Ocassionally, There’s also live music – check out their website for details.

This pub and karaoke bar is located in front of the central station and can be described as a tourist – free zone. OK, sometimes you will find the one or other tourist, but this is surely not the place where you could meet fellow travellers. The audience is aged between 30 and 50 with some occasional younger guys and girls. Two things are typical for this place: The karaoke machine which is not the youngest anymore and offers a huge selection of cheesy songs in Finnish language. And it probably has the cheapest tap beer in town. I paid 3,20 EUR for a half a litre of Karhu IV. And if you don’t find time in Tampere to go tu Ale Pupi: There are two more of them in Finland: In Kuopio and Jyväskylä.
Dress Code: No dress code, although suit and tie may cause unwanted attention....

“Plevna” was opened in 1994 in one of the former Finlayson mills. This brewery-restaurant is well-known for its huge selection of home-made beers and their menu of good and solid dishes. Some of them are traditional ones, others are international bar food like burgers or “Bratwurst”. Anyway, this is a popular place where you can just sit back and read a book or taste all the beers with your friends. The furniture reminds you of an English pub, but this place is large and darker than an usual pub. Outside, there is a small terrace. Prices are affordable, no more and no less than in an average pub.
The beers on tap are well discribed in the menu and on top of the bar, also in English. Try out the 8% stout called “Siperia” which was mentioned in the book “1001 beers you must try before you die”. This and all other home-made beers are brewed according to the German “Reinheitsgebot”. That means that only hops, yeast, water and malt are in the beer and no articifical flavours or preservatives. Plevna is often described as a restaurant, but has more pub character and the opening times of a such.

If you are looking for a good band playing in an English-themed pub, this should be the place for you. Jack The Rooster has a band playing almost every night, a selection of ales and lagers and also a good menu with a little more than the usual pub food. The audience mostly consist of people aged 20 to 40, but you will also find some older folks. The style of music is (usually) not the heavy Finnish metal style, but a more mainstream band type which will also satisfy fans of softer rock tunes. Note that on some evenings, an entry fee is required - depending on the band. The outside area is located directly at the Tammerkoski and popular during summertime.
I spent most of the time outside, enjoying my fish salad (“river salad”) and the one or other pint of Murphy’s stout. During that time, I read my book and enjoyed the sun going down behind the Tammerkoski before going in to listen to the first couple of songs of the band. A good evening which came to an end only because of my own tiredness. Anyway, I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Tampere.
