This picture is from the garden of a very special place. You can find this artist's atelier home at the lake shore of Tuusula. It's made out of huge logs of wood in the national romantic style. It was built in 1902 for Pekka Halonen (1865-1933) who was one of the leading artists of the so called Golden Age of Finnish art. He studied in Paris (under Paul Gauguin) and is best known and loved for his landscapes. At that time, there were many talented artists who lived in the area and they used to gather here for musical evenings. The link provided is in Finnish only (sorry), but you can see the opening times and a picture of the main building in it anyway. This place has a lot of character and great atmosphere.
Changing exhibitions are arranged all year round. Cafe and gift shop.

This museum is dedicated to the work of the Finnish women who defended their country during times of hardship. Interesting war time equipment, clothing, household utensils and paraphernalia. During and after the war, there was a tremendous shortage of all consumer goods and here you can see how ingeniously inventive people could be in times of need.
A beautiful wooden blue and white villa and a well kept garden with fruit trees and statues.
If you're feeling peckish, this is a nice place to pop in for a cup of coffee or tea. There's always good home made coffee bread at the cafeteria.
Syvaranta Lotta museum and the cafeteria are open:
2.5.-4.9. tue-sun 11-18
6.9.-2.10. tue-sun 11-17
5.10.-30.4. wed-sun 11-17

This red brick building was built in 1915 and it's the home of Martha Wendelin Museum, among other things. Martha Wendelin was a well known and beloved artist whose beautiful post cards are popular even today. She had a very distinctive romantic style. You can also find Tuusula's tourist services office here. The link is in Finnish only (sorry) but you can see pictures of the building and the activities.

Tuusula Golf Club is on the lands of Krapi (an old farm changed into hotel and restaurant) but is a separate business. The golf club was founded in 1983 and thus also the club building is rather new. The course has 18 holes and has mixed scenery of forest, field and lake side and there are a few ponds and a small creek going through the area. All in all, you can see that the course has been built on old farm fields because the land is so even. There aren't any man made hills to make it more interesting.

This place has special old time atmosphere and it's still used for Sunday services every week. Also concerts are arranged from time to time. Super popular for weddings. Located by a lake and has a small graveyard around it. This picture is taken from the frozen lake to give a new angle to the otherwise quite similar pictures of the place. The website I've provided is in Finnish only, sorry.

The road called Tuusulan Rantatie (lake shore road) is a museum road since 1982. Famous Finnish artists lived there, Pekka Halonen, Juhani Aho and Venny Soldan-Brofeldt, Eero Jarnefelt , JH Erkko and Jean Sibelius, among others. Eino Leino was a frequent guest. The homes of Halonen, Aho and Sibelius are museums but the others are private homes with no admission or admission only on one or two days per season. Country road with loads of tradition.
I don't know what the museum road status means nowadays because a lot of new modern (and some of them out of style) houses have been built here. It's become a very posh housing area! Also the Lotta museum building is new, but it's an old style wooden villa in the style of the original and suits nicely these surroundings.

Tuusulanjarvi is rather shallow and muddy but recent rescue measures have helped a lot to improve the quality of water and it is clearer now. Many people like to go fishing there. You'll need a fishing permit, as usual. Only angling in the traditional rod+hook+worm style goes without a permit.

If it's cold enough and the lake freezes, you can go fishing on ice. You make a hole in the ice and sit by it for hours. Many people think it's great. Be prepared to cold temperature, wear a ski overall or something. Also remember to take some hot coffee in a thermos flask and sandwiches with you.
