Rugged landscape
The more north you go the rougher the landscape gets. Huge lakes, stony ground barely covered with trees and nobody who disturb you. Camping here means being in the wilderness - here you often see reindeers graze near to you.
Architecture Tampere

Through Santa's Village in Rovaniemi goes a white line that marks the Arctic Circle. When I stepped over the line I experienced a rough wind, much colder temperatures and it started snowing - - no, just joking!

The climate of Finland is marked by cold winters and fairly warm summers. In the far north of the country the sun does not set for about 73 days, producing the white nights of summer. In winter the sun remains below the horizon for 51 days in the far north. In summer the temperature quite often rises to +20 Celsius or more and occasionally goes close to +30 in southern and eastern parts of the country. In winter, temperatures of -20 Celsius are not uncommon in many areas. Finnish Lapland invariably has the lowest winter temperatures. The mean temperature in Helsinki in July is +17 Celsius and in February -5.7 Celsius. There are clear four seasons in Finland. I like them all, but specially I love Fall and late Summer days. Fall is very very colorful and fresh in Finland, specially in the south areas. Summer days in late July are still full of light.

Tarja is propably the most liked president in our history. Her popularity has steadily increased since she took office in March 2000 with a poll last month giving her a 94-percent popularity rating, way above her predecessors. The secret of her popularity is her way to act. She doesn't want to be isolated from citizens, she travels around the country with her husband, Pentti. Usually Tarja is without body guards and it is not a wonder to see her at the gas station eating sandwich and having a gap in her head. From her official web pages you find paintings made by her own and for example pics of her cats. Our president is also very culturel and if there is a big star touring in Finland, no matter is he rock star of opera singer, Tarja will defenitely be among the audience. Last summer in Pori Jazz in Finland, Tarja jammed on the stage with James Brown. The song they sang together was...

If you have some business to take care in a Finns office then you might want to take some extra time on that.. With al the EU regulations. there is alot more paperwork than you think and the office worker might remind you something like from the picture beside!!!

If you are afraid to get lost a bit.. then take the Railway station as the centre, where you go to different directions, but always return to the same point... and go from there to the other direction. It is good especially for young travellers who are not very experienced :)

One of the girls on the tip broke her foot (football can be a very dangerous sport!!!) and was finding it had to keep up with everyone on a night out with her crutches. Some bright person spotted a supermarket trolley and the rest is history - she got to travel 'in style' and the guys had a new toy to play with (actually it's a wonder she didn't have two broken feet by the end of the night!!!).We arrived up to the pub, unloaded her, went inside & had a few drinks, then went back out to the waiting trolley and on to the nightclub. I still can't believe that bouncers in Finland were willing to let a gang of people, including one in a shopping trolley into their pubs/nightclubs!!!!

I always miss Finnish nature when I am away from Finland. Look at this scenery! A nice bridge in Lapland on a hiking route. Finnish fells, lakes, forests and islands are fantastic. Everything is so green in summer and birds are singing. Finnish nature is so clean that you can drink from a river or from a lake at least in Lapland.

Marvellous and enchanting finnish landscapes. I just don't seem to get enough of it. Finnish winter means still real winter with masses of snow, ice and low temperatures... This picture is taken at our cottage in middle-finland. It is about noon on Christmas 2002. The picture wouldn't tell, but it is some minus 20 degrees celcius. There's about half a meter of snow and the ice on the lake is ca. 60 cm thick...

Three species of swans live in Finland during the summer time: by the sea shores the white swan in Latin cygnus olor and in Finnish kyhmyjoutsenon the lakes in the inland the whooper swan in Latin cygnus cygnus and in Finnish laulujoutsenand the rare bewick's swan in Latin cygnus bewickii and in Finnisch kääpiöjoutsen In the picture you a couple of white swan landing on our lake. Every year in the very early spring the same swans come to the same lake to breed and raise their off-springs...During Easter when the ice on the lakes is already slowly melting there's always a dramatic spectacle, when other swans try to get their share of fresh water...Swans have been very highly regarded animals to our ancestors, esp. in Carelia. It is said that there was along the Bear and the Elk clans a Swan clan... Even in paleolithic petroglyphs swan are distinguishable.
