Marshlands in the south-west

by sinoda

Why do you visit Finland? What do you expect?Hope nothing and get everything.Finland has a extraordinary countryside, nature as raw as life itself, mild as soft as the bears fur, dark as intimidating winter's days and as bright as the sun's kiss.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-. Even in the busiestmost area of Finlnd (south-west - called ruuhka-Suomi) you can encounter wild nature. Here marshlands in Varsinais-Suomi.

Birch wood

by sinoda

Having spent my youth mostly in Switzerland the birch is a tree I know best from I our vacations in Finland. Well, there are birches in Switzerland, yes, but they are nothing compared to the ones up here. People raised in central Europe will be fascinated by the vast and shiny birch woods you encounter everywhere in Finland, except in the very north.Birch in Finnish is koivu and a whole birch wood koivikko. In June and July when their leaves are fresh and still rather tender and the tree trunks are whiter than white you may believe having a vision! for it is such a beautiful sight and if there happens to be a lake somewhere close the glittering water will just make the it perfect. ___________________________________The picture on the other hand shows you a koivikko in winter's time - what a lovely sight as well. Those Finns who know it do drink the juice of the birch called mahla and the...

Enjoy the few lights of the sun during winter, it can be pretty short... but once they appear it changes the landscapes amazingly. The light reflect on the snow and everything become sweeter. Enjoy as well the sun in summer, almost never going below the horizon it is coool. It can give some sleepness problems but it worth it.

When to visit Finland

by Gili_S

It is never to hot if Finland, there fore the summer is the best time to visit Finland. The days are long and the sun is shining at list 18 hours a day. As more you go north, there will be more sunshine, if it’s not cloudy of course. The summer season is short, starting in late May, but sometime only in late June. The summer will be ended in the end of August. If you cannot make it to Finland in summer, other good choices will be autumn, the fall season in late September with its beautiful colours. If you do come in the winter, try to make it as late as possible, February-March are OK, but even April is a great time to spend in Lapland do to the increase in day light but still enough snow for all the winter fun.

Fable land

by tales

Amethyst Mine in Luosto, Rovaniemi where I went underground to find the ametist stone. It was a great experience, because I had a stick iron to get the little stones inside the land. Then there was a gentle lady that accompany us in a hut, where we saw a big ametist stone with its natural powers. We had a big white hut, a big cup of tè because it was very cold. We were in mountain. My best memory of Finland is the limpid air, the tranquillity, a particular energy in the forests, beautifull lakes ... ok the Finland remained in my heart!!!Naturally unforgettable santa claus park!!!Ciao
