The atmosphere in this rastaurant is, what could I say, like in all seaman restaurant. There has not made any changes after world war one. Go to the back cabin if you don't want to drink with sailors.
I really recommend this place!
(And the restaurant has nothing to do with Sampo Bank or Sampo ice-breaker.)
Favorite Dish: The only one you should eat in this place is fried whitefish with potatos and rye bread (13,00€).

Isä Camillo is located in a building which used to be Bank of Finland (Kuopio office of cource). It's build in 1912 and a lot of gold has been there in the vaults.
The place has got its name according to italian writer Giovanni Guareschi (I don't know the reason :)
Favorite Dish: Fish: Oven Baked Pike-Perch with river crab butter and vegetables (18,60€).
Meat: Fillet of Lamb in red wine sauce with champion risotto (19,40€).

Ravintola Hiili is a pretty new restaurant in Kuopio, located on a small and quiet street near the market square. The house itself looks drab, but the restaurant has been fully refurbished lately and designed with style. There is also a small terrace on the inner yard.
As the name implies (Hiili = coal), the restaurant focuses on grilled food. The most of the menu is about various meats, but there are also good salads. The wine list is short, but our wine was excellent -- as was the food. The service was good and pretty fast.

We found the place in the net, from pages, where people give"stars"to Finnish restaurants, and tell what they think of the place. This one has got 4½ stars from about 20 reviews.
It was a good found.I can´t remember, when we have last time eaten so good food.Service was friendly also, and place looked quite new.Maybe too much like all the other Finnish restaurants, but food was SOOO good.
They are open also late at night, but we didn´t go to see what kind of"night-place"it is.
Favorite Dish: I had a beef with garlic-potatos,my husband had chicken-salami pasta and our friend had feta-salad and salomon. We all thought we had best meal for long time. Those garlic-potatos really tasted garlic, and had big bites of garlic in.Only negative thing was, that there could have been more of those.
We had cheapest white wine(can´t remeber the name,Italian, from Sicily) and it was good also.

RAX PIZZABUFFET is a good place to stop by if you are tired from walking and shopping and getting hungry. For 8.99 € you can eat and drink so much you want. If you pay one euro more you get also ice cream. The assortiment is quite good: chicken wings, various pizzas in pieces, meat balls, onions rings, potatoes, different salads and so on. From drinks there is coffee, tea, limonades. We stayed there for quite a time and were not hungry at all in the end:)
Favorite Dish: Pizzas are really tasty

Kaneli (Cinnamon) is was born in December 2005 near the Market Place, address Kauppakatu 22, Kuopio. Since then it has been my favourite. Coffee is fresh, and the cakes etc. selfmade (not too cheap, though), and the atmosphere very peacefull. The old peaces of furniture can be bought, too, if you are interested.
Favorite Dish: Just a cup of coffee with a fresh pulla - a Finnish sweet bun (it has not too many calories and it tastes grate with a cup of coffee)

Café Houkutus is a hidden gem in Kuopio. You need to know its location on the second floor in one of the Carlsson department store buildings, a block or two from the central market square. Once you've found it, you won't forget it -- the cakes are just that delicious.
The café specialises in cakes, but they do offer also sweet and salty pastries, too. There are both conventional and untraditional cakes, such as chili pineapple cake or white chokolate and whipped cream cake. The names are funny, too, but only in Finnish.
And the best of all: the café is inexpensive. Not dirt cheap, but very rationally priced. We were positively surprised how much we got with so little euros.

Open the white gate and you'll see a pictoresque light blue wooden villa surrounded by a lush garden. It's a restaurant you are not likely to forget. You can have lunch, take just a cup of coffee or dine á la carte. They also have a catering service and a very nice private room should you want to arrange a birthday party or something like that for about 20 persons.
Open daily from 9 am to 9 pm (Sun 12 am to 9 pm).
N.B. No alcohol is served!
Favorite Dish: Home baked buns and pastries

This place wasn't there last summer so it must be rather new. It was a pleasant surprise with all different shape and size tables and chairs that look like they were found on the flea market. There were just a couple of tables outside but it was not that small in the inside as there was also a small "upstairs". Well, it was really just a large landing but anyway it gave the place that special feel. By the way, Kaneli means Cinnamon.
Favorite Dish: I especially enjoyed a cup of Tiramisu Venetsia, rooibos tea with vanilla, cocoa and white chocolate chips. I liked it so much I bought some to take home (cost 6,50/100 gr).
