This is probably the best restaurant in the area. It holds a Chaine des Rotisseurs rating and is famous all over the country for its great food and atmosphere. It's located in an old beer cellar and the red brick vaults just give that special ambience. It's not the cheapest place in town either but not too expensive unless you're travelling on a really low budget. Please note the opening hours: evenings only.
Favorite Dish: Try this at 17,50 eur: ROAST OF LAMB AND ONION SOUP, THYME - POTATO TERRINE, GARLIC FOAM

Belonging to the Restel chain of restaurants, this is a classic place to taste the famous vendace or muikku, fresh water fish delicacy. The locals are very proud of this little fish and insist that you must, simply must taste some when in Kuopio. So don't mis it.

Although Isa Camillo bills itself as an Italian restaurant, it serves many international dishes, as evidenced by the delicious chicken tandoori & spiced potatoes in mango yogurt we had. For dessert we tried the lime sorbet in a mango-pineapple salsa. Yummy!
The restaurant originally attracted us with its stained-glass windows, and the decor was just as impressive on the inside! The service was very friendly and the menus were available in English... which came in quite handy.

This is the very place to get your MUIKKU, a small lakefish which they make in so many delicious ways. It's hard to find traditional Finnish food but this is one thing you are going to love.
Favorite Dish: You get the muikku (it might be called yellowfish but I'm not sure) in different forms, my favourite are the fried ones which you eat from the head to tail, it's crispy and great especially with some lemon and smetana... yes...

There are several very good restaurants for *chic* evening dinners but also reasonable price categories in addition to hamburger and italian pizza/pasta restaurants.
Here are few that I been to or can recommend:
Musta Lammas (Black Sheep) which is a Chaîne Des Rôtisseurs restaurant
Click HERE to view their menu and address!
The Puijo Tower restaurant
A revolving restaurant at the top of the 200 meters tower with splendid views over Kuopio.

Isä Camillo (Father Camillo),
the new renovated one!

Musta Lammas, meaning Black Sheep is maybe one of the most stylish restaurants in Kuopio. It is not looking good at all from outside, but should be special inside.

This cafe or bar whichever way you might see it is located just by the lake and I think it open only in summer. However, its a great place for a summer terrace if the sun is shining.
