This park in the winter is full covered with snow and ice and so in it fantastic for winter activities. The park itself is very large in a wide area, you can approach it from many directions, but you will not to drive around the big lake to get to the other side of it.
There are many small trails to take a hike to near by places, villages and spots where you can stop and take a path to explore the area.
The Heritage Centre located just next to the Koli hotel and the ski resort. It has an exhibition and lots of information about Koli, its nature and history. Very interesting and recommending checking it out
Koli is very popular park for summer hiking and camping. I was hiking here during a beautiful warm summer days and one of the greatest things here that during the midsummer months it is never get really dark here, so you don't really get into the dark. You can stroll in your own pace and have breaks as much as you want. The trails are marked well and easy for all ages.
One of the best possible activates in Koli is hiking of course. I was hiking here during winter as well as in summer. Everywhere the trails are marked well and in most routes also distances is clear so you can plan well which trail to take. Just be aware that during winter the daylight is very short so plan your trip for mid day so you will have enough time to complete the trail before dark.
In the summer this park is blooming, a fantastic place for traditional Nordic hiking and you can explorer the forest hills and lakes around here. There are many marked trails for hiking and you can do some wild camping as well but I believe that you are not allowed to light a campfire.
For such please check my accommodation tips.
You usually visit a national park because you like to walk around and enjoy the nature around. Patvinsuo National Park is a prefect place for that. Some long trails, three short trails, camping sites, information centre...
Koli situated in Eastern Finland is the Southest high mountain in Finland. In spite of that you cannot see the midsummer sun on it. You have to go still further to the North for seeing it. But sceneries always are wonderful.
Husky Safari is coming more and more popular for tourists visiting Finland and also here you can experience it. Just be sure you know exactly of the program and price, this is no cheap adventure.
No problems in the summer of course, but in the winter, you will need the digger to create the hole in the ice for fishing.
From the top of the hill, at the ski resort, there are the possibilities to do some downhill/slalom ski as well as the traditional cross country ski.
