Taidekeskus Salmela is a sort of a tradition in Finland. People with name and social status flock to witness its opening every summer, and the event has good coverage in the papers.
Still, the art center is not just for snobs and alike, but it provides a good cut of Finnish contemporary arts for everybody interested in the subject. This year there were over 200 pieces of art on display, and all of them were on sale, too.
The center has been established in an old converted wooden building by the lake, quite near to the center of Mäntyharju town, 200 kilometers from Helsinki towards Mikkeli.

While visiting art center Salmela, squeeze some time so visit Ravintola Kesäheinä that has one part of the art show on its walls and a full menu to satisfy your appetite.
Located conveniently in between the two major areas of Salmela, Kesäheinä is an ideal stop for resting feet and savour the Finnish summer at its best. The only minus comes from quite high prices for an Eastern Finland establishment.
