You know people, people know you....
In a nutshell

for nature and quiet life lovers an excellent place
Torikahvila: A marketplace cafeteria
Soili Says: The cafeteria is special because it simply is the heart of the market place. The coffee is good, not to mention the pulla. Mikkeli without the market place and its cafeteria is unthinkable. One coffee and pulla, please. Kahvi and pulla. Finnish pulla is always good.
Gili_S Says: There are few pubs and clubs in town, they are not any fascinating but well, you can go, have a drink and chat with the locals.
Gili_S Says: You will probably get to Mikkeli by train or bus, you can see it is as small town and this is the empty bus station in the city centre.
Gili_S Says: In the summer, and only in the summer you can buy wonderful fresh forest berries in the market, there are many kinds, my favourites are the blueberries, cranberries and cloudberries ;-)
Gathering at the market place cafe
Soili Says: The market place is very central in Mikkeli. People gather there, and here you can also hear some of the Mikkeli dialect. Don't be afraid if people come and actually talk to you: they mean no harm, they're just friendly. Even if you don't have a common language.
The old garden at Kenkävero and women
Soili Says: The old placew within the town is called Kenkävero. It's possible to buy textiles and other items, such as dried herbs and delicatessen, at the shop. If you like gardening, this place offers much to see for you: the garden plants come from this area, they are strong and grow...
Soili Says: For those who want to folow a horse race, MIkkeli is one of the places to head to. The race track is situated within the town itself. A very colourful spectacle, and the town is humming with excitement on the racing day.
irish147 Says: I have been to Mikkeli about 13 times, and I find this town very downcast city/town. Not allot to do here, but in the winter they get some good snow falls which is great for winter sports. They have a good Ice Hockey team called Jukurit (web link www.jukurit.fi/)If you like...
