Pestuumarkkinat - Traditional Market Day
For about a hundred years, every year during the second week-end in September, there has been a big market in the centre of Rautalampi village. People come here from all the neighbouring municipalities. There is programme, all kinds of stalls selling about everything you can imagine in the country market (except animals), and plenty of people. Originally this was the time for servants to search for new employers, and for the farmers to search for new hired hands. The deal lasted for the whole year - until next September! As also the Rautalampi village is worth seeing, visit Pestuumarkkinat if you are staying nearby in September!
