Flying to Jyväskylä? Bus transport to/from centre

by Vesanto Updated Nov 6, 2010

Jyväskylä has a small mainly domestic airport in Tikkakoski, some 20 km from the centre. The biggest international airport is situated in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. From there there are 4 regular flights daily to Jyväskylä (2010). The flight from Helsinki to Jyväskylä takes about 35 minutes and the drive from the airport to the centre of Jyväskylä roughly 20 minutes. There is an airport shuttle bus from the Travel Centre to Jyväskylä Airport and back.

The shuttle bus will leave for the airport from the Travel Centre from Hannikaisenkatu one hour before the plane's departure. The bus from the airport will leave after each regular flight when the passengers have picked up their baggage. The bus fare is 5 euros (cash only). Long distance buses driving along the Highway 4 will stop either at the airport or within walking distance at a bus stop on the highway.

The nearest international airport is situated in Tampere, with connections to Stockholm, Copenhagen. Bremen, Milan, Dublin, Frankfurt, London, and Riga (2010). Jyväskylä has good rail and bus connections to Tampere.

  • The local way of getting around

by kirahvi Updated Jul 15, 2009

The best way to get around the city is definitely by bike. There are good bike routes in all parts of the city, and because the city is small the distances aren't too bad either. The bus tarifs are way through the roof, so especially during the academic year you can't help noticing all the students riding their bikes. But it's not only for the younger demographic, mind you! Hop on a bike and go for a ride.

    Bus

    by Gili_S Written Dec 23, 2007

In Jyväskylä and around there are only buses as public transportation, no metro or trams as it is really not so big town, and when you take a bus to the suburb, you might need to wait long time in the bus stop to come back to the city.

    Train

    by Gili_S Written Dec 23, 2007

By train is the easiest way to get here, there are many daily trains to Jyväskylä, however, I usually arrive by car here, no matter how much snow & ice was on the road.
