  • The Langinkoski Imperial Fishing Lodge

    The fishing lodge, built in 1889 on request by Russian Emperor and Grand Duke Alexander III, has been kept intact. It tells about the life of the imperial family at the end of the 19th century. The Langinkoski Imperial Fishing Lodge is open 1.5.-31.8. daily 10am-7pm and Sept-Oct Sat-Sun 10am-7pm.

    I think this was my favourite place in Kotka. A water park build by the sea is a great place for leisure with the kids, walk around, having an ice cream, people & bird watching and most of all, a place to relax.

    Kotka is rather small city, I mean the centre part of it, you can just walk around, take a break in a coffee shop or a pub and relax in this nice park in the city centre. As long as the weather is good of course.

    I visited this pub for one drink only, it was rather early and empty at the time I came here. But as long as the time pass more customers came in, mostly young girls. So, just take it to your consideration when you plan to visit Kotka. What? Something that show some skin of course.

    There is also this small train station in Kotka. There is not real direct connection between Kotka and Helsinki and if you use the train, it will take you more time then the bus ride and you will need to change trains in Kouvola.

    There is regular bus line between Kotka and Helsinki. Buses are running all day long first bus at 6:30 in the morning and last bus at 23:00. The journey takes about 2 hours.

    An ocean and sea aquarium.

    I was visiting here in summer 2004 with my kids, what can I say, was nice, but for the fee you pay to get in here, I was expecting for more.

    This is not a real Off The Beaten Path, it is somewhere there is the centre by the park. This work of art make of wood, very interesting but was not any details on a display there.

    Favorite thing: Kotka (which means "Eagle" in Finnish) is a small town in the south east of Finland.
    If you haven’t had any special plan to go there, you don’t really have to, the place can be rather boring if you are alone, However; with a good company on a hot summer day, it just great place for having fun.
