    A walk round Likolampi

by Sininen Written Apr 8, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

About two km from where I live is this small pond. In summer I like to go swimming there, first thing in the morning and last thing before I go to bed. Sometimes I take a walk around it or in its surroundings, or ride my bicycle as there are good paths for it too. A lovely quiet place close to the Central hospital.

    OLD WOODEN HOUSES IN MYT?J?INEN

Most old buildings have been pulled down years ago, but there are some beautiful colourful houses in Myt?j?inen still. They give you an idea what houses looked like in Finland decades ago. About two kilometres from the city centre, in the corner of H?meenlinnantie and Vanha Helsingintie.

    A day in Hollola

    Church in the mist

You can take a day tour to Hollola, which is about 15 km/10 miles from Lahti and visit its medieval stone church (address Rantatie 917, ph. 03-52 6600), museum (ph. 041-440 5450)next to the church, climb up to Kapatuosian hill behind the church (this hill is the oldest settlement in Päijät-Häme), have traditional buffet lunch at Kunnantupa (red wooden building opposite to the church) and end your day in Pyhäniemi Manor, where there's art exhibition every summer (not in 2004). Many Finnish golden era films were filmed there and that's why it's often called Hollola's Hollywood. Beautiful gardens surround it and even if you are not interested in art the manor is worth a visit. In summer you can also take a boat from Lahti Marina to Hollola.

If it's winter, you must try to do cross country ski, not too far, short tracks are usually just about 5 km. (3 miles)
