The Convent Church was build between 1443 and 1462, it is as old as the 550-year-old Naantali. Today, it is all that remains from the medieval St Bridget’s Convent. In the Middle Ages, the Brigittine Convent and its church became a significant place of pilgrimage, and thus a great benefit for the town. The ceremonial crown used when the nuns took their vows and the Gothic tabernacle remind you of the convent time.
The baroque belfry can be seen from almost everywhere in town as it stands on top of the hill near the harbour.

Open 12-3pm on sundays only during winter.

Naantali also homes the summer residence of the President of Finland. You can get a glimpse of it if you click the picture (in the distance on the left). But we didn’t walk that far, it was on the other side of Naantali’s shore. The gardens of this little granite castle, along with its statues, are said to be beautiful.
You can check if the President is there when the flag of Finland flies on top of the tower.

Neat little spot, that must be quite animated in the summer. During the winter, all you’ll find is a peaceful quiet place…which is also nice :-) Unfortunately almost all the restaurants and cafés are closed... or at least they were the day we visited, except for one, hotelli Ravintola (Tullikatu, 6), where we had a feast buffet of local specialties!!!

Naantali is also very famous with the little ones, as it houses the Moomin World. Moomins are famous comics and fairy tales characters created by the Finnish writer Tove Jansson. The park is situated on a little island in front of the harbour, that you can reach by crossing a wooden bridge, but it was closed when we visited.

Surrounded by the sea, glittering under the shining autumn sun, the view that stretches in front of you is stunning. Nature is once again so beautiful and captivating… nothing left to do but sit on a bench and contemplate…
    Such an idyllic place !

Another view you can enjoy on Naantali.
Nature in Finland is really gorgeous, and wandering is a very pleasant thing to do in this country... You always discover peaceful places, everywhere. And taking the time to appreciate them is so great...

The old city is the main attraction here. Just to walk around all the way to sea, on the way you can step in to some shops or have a cup of coffee in one of the small traditional coffee shops.

This church originally builds for a monastery during the 15th century. However, the tower was build much later and the current building was actually re construct just about 50 years ago.

Naantali was famous for its medieval St Bridget's convent, but today the church is the only thing left, as most other buildings have been torn down and the stone used in walls and other town buildings. The church was built in 1443-62 and is one of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen. It's baroque belfry can be seen from many places in town and is easy to recognise.

That is the old church on Naantali. You can see it almost from everywhere in the city as it is at the top of the hill just at the edge of the old city near by the sea. Down bellow the church is the nice sandy beach of Naantali.
