Reposaari island

Reposaari island is located outside Pori on the Gulf of Bothnia at the outlet of the River Kokem?enjoki. The island is about three kilometres long and a half kilometre wide.
Because of its favourable location and this uniquely sheltered and deep natural harbour Reposaari was well known to tradesmen and warriors.
The many beatiful wooden houses are witnesses of those times and together with a marvellous maritime scenery it makes an attractive place.

Outside

Fritz Arthur Juselius, a mining counsellor had the mausoleum built to commemorate the death of his 11-year-old daughter Sigrid. He was also buried there after his death. The building started in 1899 and finished in 1902.

The mausoleum is designed by Josef Stenbäck. The original frescos, painted by the artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela, were destroyed in a fire in 1931. The wall paintings seen today are the work of his son; artist Jorma Gallen-Kallela and were made from Akseli´s original sketches.

Opening times: Free entrance 1.5.-31.8. from 12.00 till 15.00 daily and from 1.9.-30.4. on Sundays from 12.00 till 14.00. You can also ask for a tour outside of these times from Käppärä Cemetery´s office, phone: +3582 623 8746, open from monday to friday from 8.00 till 14.00. This will cost you.

All together!!

During the summer(this year it will be in 21-24 July) there are big open-air concerts held at the beautiful concert park Kirjurinluoto Arena on the Kokemäki riverside.
The riverside Jazzstreet provides round-the-clock rhythms throughout the festival week.
This year will be the 40th edition!!
The festival program emphasizes jazz, but as usual offers also blues, soul, funk, hip-hop and latin music.

The Ultra Music Meeting, held at Pori Theatre 20-22 July, features this year three different themes; Norvegian Soundscapes, Freedom Now and A taste of Rock n´Roll.

Waiting for

This is an experience not to miss if you are in Pori during the Jazz Fesitval. The picnic concert is on the Island of Kirjurinluoto and goes on for the whole afternoon. There is enough space to sit down, eat and drink while linstening to world class jazz music!

Pori Jazz 2003

The street on the scenic banks of the Kokemäki River is the place where all people gather during the Jazz Festival of Pori. There you find free concerts, market stands, local and international food specialities and of course much to drink.

The Old Courthouse

This valuable old building was designed by architect C.L. Engel and completed in 1841.
It underwent basic repairs and restoration work and is now shining like in the old days.
The building houses the Pori City Tourist Office.

Spending New Year's Eve in Pori

If you plan to celebrate the new year in Pori, prepare yourself for the very cold weather!

During the 31st of December 2002 the temperature dropped down to -18C. This however doesn't stop the citizen of Pori from gathering to watch the fireworks by Kokemäki River.
