Inside the market hall (Kauppahalli) there is a beautiful and very unique cafe which we found by accident. The furniture, windows etc are taken from an old train!! It's beautiful.
Favorite Dish: This is a typical Finnish self service cafe. So grab yourself a cup of coffee and a "pulla" and enjoy being on a train going nowhere.

This popular pub is not only a meeting place, but you may also feel the atmosphere of luxorous bank office world of 20th century, before collaption of banking business in Finland. Altough the dignified old bank has disappeared, the building itself - about 100 years old - is still going strong (that we cannot tell about modern houses). Huge old bank vaults deserve now as toilets downstairs.

Panimoravintola Koulu is the biggest microbrewery in Finland, producing somewhat 170 000 liters of beer every year. A lot of that beer is consumed on their large summer patio behind the old school building that has been converted to a set of restaurants and a brewery.
The patio or the school yard is served from a kiosk that sells only drinks and some bar snacks. Food can be ordered, too, and it will be delivered from the building. We were not exactly hungry, so we decided just to bask in the sunshine with some drinks. The tables are spread around in the huge yard, so you can enjoy some privacy. Mind you, the yard is dusty on dry days and probably a bit muddy when it has rained.
Inside the building, the charm of an old school has been preserved well. The whole restaurant complex is huge, and they have several bars, cabinets and halls for almost any occasion.

The only reason I chose this place for my coffee break was because of the excellent location right there in the centre. However, being a hotel coffee shop I was expecting for some quality, but unfortunately there was no, my coffee was not hot enough and tasted like s*'t.

After a night out dancing at KÅREN - a popular student place, we used to walk back to the campus and stop at this hamburger kiosk (it was a smaller kiosk at that time) and order the one and only -KERROSHAMPURILAINEN-.
This Hesburger chain is typically finnish and started in Naantali town near Turku!
At that time I had a lot - way too many of those double-deck hamburgers (very cheap for poor students!!) and can't really eat any of them anymore :-)!
But still, if I ever have to choose between any other brands I'll go for Hesburger.

PUUTORIN VESSA * THE PUBLIC TOILET pub
There are 3 sights in Turku that should not be missed by anyone: The Cathedral, Turku Castle and The Public Toilet pub (Puutorin VESSA) at Puutori-square!
This premise has relieved Turku citizens' and others' life since 1933!
Short History:
* The great fire of Turku in 1827 started right here at Puutori!
* 1933: Puutorin VESSA is built to relieve bus drivers' and passengers' need while the bus terminal was at Puutori-square!
This round building was found ugly by Turku people and was sarcastically named * the Mausoleum of Sutinen (the architect) * in accordance with Lenin's Mausoleum!
* 1986: it is closed to the public but still served bus drivers
* 6.6.1997: The Public Toilet is reopened after complete renovation AS A PUB!
It receives its own Mannekenpiss statue, offered by a finnish EuroParliament member.
It's not a big pub and people come only for a short time to have one-two drinks in a very unsual settings: toilets.
You may even have your beer served in an authentic potty!!
So far the website is only in finnish and Turku dialect -but it's rather unusual - take a look,lol!

Despite the fact that Torku (and Finland) is very expensive in food, try to find cheap solutions as: the restaurant in the train station is fair well and in reasonable prices. Furthermore, big markets have a huge variety of food and drinks, so go there, take whatever you like, and enjoy them in a park.

Enkeli ravintola - Angel restaurant
The restaurant is in beautiful old wooden house. On the walls you will see painting which are also on sale. Notice the extra ordinary chairs. There are different kind of chairs which are painted different ways! In the evenings there usually are live piano music! Excellent place to have a dinner! The atmosphere is bewildering!
Favorite Dish: Chicken salad! It was the best chicken salad which I have ever eaten and a reasonable price.

Hi, Royal Curry House is on Hameenkatu 9, 20500 Turku. I have tried their cuisine, its simply delicious and the best. I suggest one must try there if there is desire to taste the real dishes and spices of the sub-continent.
Favorite Dish: Chicken Tikka Masala, Dal Tarka, Kashmiri Nan and muttar Palau.

I guess it has been Spanish restaurant, but doesn´t anymore. My husband wanted to have a restaurant hamburger, and I don´t like hamburgers. They had steaks also, and quite good selection, so this was a good choise. They did also have reasonable priced (compared to Finnish restaurants!) wines and at least some different beers, witch was good also. We don´t like drinking just some beer from the tap, we want to choose.
I took "leaf steak" minute steak says the dictionary. I usually don´t take it (I usually don´t want so thin) , but for some reason I felt like it this time. It was really good. So was my husbands hamburger.
I had two deep fried cheddar jalapenos with my steak. I like those, so it was a nice add. The spicy butter was really spicy (not hot ) and not tastless like many times.
It´s not a gourmet restaurant, but very good if you don´t feel like having and paying a gourmet price.
The web page is only in finnish. The photo on the page must be from the other side of the restaurant, it looked more like a pub than the dining area.
Favorite Dish: I think it would have been garlic steak, but I thought it sounded too heavy at the moment with garlic cream potatos, so I didn´t choose it.
My steak portion looks different than it was when it came. I allmost forgot the photos, and had allready started to push the potatos and vegetables back to make cutting the steak easier. Why do they put the steak to the top everywhere today??
