The basic sight of Turku for us became a ferry. For this reason we have appeared in this city. Our task was to be forwarded through the sea from Finland to Sweden. There are some variants of the decision of this task. We have chosen Turku and have not regretted. Ferry Silja-line has two regular cruise in day up to Stockholm - in the day time and at night. We have chosen a night cruise. The price of one cabin of a tourist class has made 68 euros for two persons. The price of transportation of our car - 42 euros. Theme: Ship/Boat

Finland was a transit country for us. We have taken an advantage of E18 motorway to pass from a border of Russia through Finland to Turku. Our way across Finland from Valimma up to Turku has made 350 kilometers. E18 motorway represents mostly an autobahn though still there are some parts where it represents an usual highway. Restriction of speed on a motorway is 120 kilometers in an hour, on highway - 100 kilometers. Therefore the whole distance can be overcome easily for 4 hours. Theme: Car/Motor Home

Departure of the ferry is at 21.15. It is necessary to arrive with a car by 20.15. Loading on the ferry occupies about an hour. Time in a way up to Stockholm is about 9 hours. According to a difference in time between Finland and Sweden which is 1 hour a ferry arrives to Stockholm at 7.00. It is very convenient to overcome 300 kilometers at night and have a good sleep! Parking at the castle by sabsi Just a little tip if you come to Turku by car. We parked our car for free at the street next to the castle (Linnankatu - Turku seem to consist of only one street ;). Just follow the signs to "Satama" (Port) and the castle. From there bus no. 1 brings you into town for 2€ and in no time. There's a bus every 10 mts or so. Cheaper and easier than to find a parking spot in the city centre. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Bus Ticket by HORSCHECK I left Turku by ExpressBus to Helsinki. The route is served by the biggest nationwide bus company Pohjolan Liikenne. A single ticket is about 21 EURO (2002). The bus terminal is located a 10 minutes walk north of the city centre. Leave a Comment

breakfast time on the ship "Amorella" by mario_spring_83 If you are in stockholm and you want to get to turku don't hesitate to take the Viking Line ship. It is a big cruise ship and the travel lasts one night. In the ship you can find restaurants, supermarkets, shops, sauna, discos, pubs and there are also some shows and karaoke. All the stuff you want to buy on board is tax free (and that's the reason why a lot of finnish and swedish guys often take this ship to buy alchoolic and sigarettes). You can travel with a cabin (but unless you can spend a lot of money expect to have a really small one) or you can buy a ticket just for the passage and spend the whole night in the disco or just going around the ship. There is also a sleeping room where you can lay on the floor and have a rest. Everything is very luxurious and finally i think it is really a beautiful experience. Prices vary widely depending on if you are a student or you travel in a group or if you hold an inter rail or scan-rail pass. Alòso the price depends on the day of the week you want to leave (friday and saturdaty are the most expensive), on the period of the year and on what kind of cabin you want. by Gili_S There is one unique service here in the city, a small local ferry that will take you in a minute from one side to another side of the river, I assume this service is running only in summer, and it was working even late at night. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by Scandic It's easy to reach Turku from Helsinki. It tooks about 2 hours to travel by the train and it's very comfortable way. If you are an adult, the trip costs about 20 euros, or as a student, you can get that with half price, so it's just 10 euros. There goes trains between Turku and Helsinki more than 10 in a day. VR Train at Turku station by HORSCHECK I went to Turku by train (InterCity2) from Helsinki. The route between Helsinki and Turku is served almost hourly. The 160 km trip takes about 2 hours and a single train ticket costs about 23 Euro (2002). Turku's train station is located a 10 minutes walk northeast of the city centre. Leave a Comment

You can take one of the modern Pendolino trains which are quite fast. It takes 2 hours one way from Helsinki to Turku. Unfortunately, there is no decent map nor a tourist information in Turku station, so if you arrive by train without a map like me, you may be a bit lost. I used a summer ticket from the Finnish railway company which allowed me to use trains for 3 days for a good price. Leave a Comment
