Mix up languages
  • Tip Rating:
  • There lives 57 000 people in Vaasa and 72% of them are Finnish speaking and 27% Swedish speakin. Rest 3% has other mother language. Thats unique in Finland, where people usually speak Finnish or Swedish. But in the Vaasa's street, you can notice that it is very colorful place.

    The longest bridge in Finland
  • Tip Rating:
  • This bridge is located in Korsholm. Korsholm is a coastal community in the heart of Swedish-speaking Ostrobothnia. It is a place mixed with an unique archipelago as well as countryside. Here you will find historical sights and an interestingbuilding culture. Korsholm also has a very active musical and cultural life.Stundars, one of Finland's seven tourist wonders is situated here. Another strong attraction is the Music Festival in Korsholm.

Korsholm is a vast community bordering on the city of Vasa. It coversan area of 2,801 square kilometers (1,082 square miles) of which 847 squarekilometers (327 square miles) are land and 1,954 square kilometers (754square miles) are water. Consequently, the archipelago is very large - oneof the largest in the country - extending for miles and miles into the gulfif Bothnia.

Korsholm is easily accessible and can be reached by highways 3, 8 and16. Air and train connections as well as the ferry-service between Swedenand Finland are good.

Korsholm has a population of about 16,600 (2000), and is expanding veryfast.

  • Tip Rating:
  • As a volley ball nut, my favourite place on a beautiful summer day is at the beach of Tropiclandia. It has a few great beach volley ball courts and lots of friendly players. There's no ranking. Just go there, ask if you can play and join the game.

Tropiclandia itself is a nice spa. So if the sun is not shining, it's a great idea to enjoy the services and hot pools there.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Just sit by the city square downtown on a beautiful day. You'll see a lot of people as it's the center of the city. Most of the shops are there too.

  • Go visit the longest bridge in Finland, the Raippaluoto bridge. You get a wonderful view of the archipelago from it. (The pic is from www.korsholm.fi which has a nice web page of the bridge)

  • See the blue sky and the smile on my face? This was a lovely day to go sailing.

The archipelago of Vaasa is very unique and full of small rocky islands. Finland was covered by ice in the ice age and thanks to that the terrain is still raising one cm every year. The ice also created all those islands.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Visit Vanha Vaasa where the city was before the big fire of 1852. The whole city burned down except a few buildings. In Vanha Vaasa you can visit the ruins of the old church and visit the current church of Korsholm. It's amazingly beautiful for a lutheran church and has a beautiful garden with old oak trees.

    Vasa General Tips Tip (Untitled)
I lived here for a year when I was 12. There ain't many things that would come into my mind, but I remember I visited local fun park and water park / baths many times while I lived there. It was also first time for years you could ski there on winter, said my friends who had lived there longer.
