This town is full of sculptures. Most of them are at this art centre. The artists come from all over the world, including Canada, Germany and Slovakia.
There is a woodsculpting symposium in July. This event is held every other year.

I think there is something you must see at least once in lifetime: the midsummer midnight sun in Lappland. This photo of mine has a little lost its colors during the time. It has been taken in 1976 when the sun had just its culminating point on Kemijärvi lake, not rising yet, but not setting anymore.

Favorite thing: I went to the touristinfo to get some information on what to do. They were so helpfull. Even though I was out of the main season and there was not much to do around they provided me with all the info they could find and the lady was very friendly. She even helped me with information on my next destinations.

Kemijärvi is a small town in between three waters; River Kemijoki, Lake Kemijärvi and Lake Pöyliöjärvi. You can get here by train or by bus. I had the idea of travelling north as far as possible....
You may go fishing to Kemijärvi Lake in midsummer night and you need not any light, because the sun is shining whole the night!
