 Gili_S Says:  On the way to Kilpisjarvi, stop at the Kilpisjarvi Visitor Centre, it is a greet location for a beautiful view as well as for collecting information about the area, where to go hiking, sleeping, fishing etc.

 Gili_S Says:  The Kilpisjarvi lake is beautiful clear water lake in the valley between the mountains. Be aware that the water will always be very cold here as the snow going on melting all through the summer.

 Gili_S Says:  Here in this photo is the place I planted my test the last time, and as the day was so warm the cold air came down the mountain at night and the wind was blowing so strong just to be on the safe side I tied the tent to the car as well he he.

 Gili_S Says:  This is Kilpisjarvi hiking centre campground. Located by the Kilpisjarvi lake and just by the Saana mountain. This camping site is large full facilities with lots of cabins and space for caravans. However, the space for tents is not that well organised but I still found nice...

 Gili_S Says:  Being on the road and on camping site I prefer to do my own cooking. However, I thought I will manage to get a fresh fish up here but I did not, so, again, traditional sausages and some cold beer were on the menu. 

Coffee Shop

 Gili_S Says:  There is a large coffee shop and cafeteria here where you can stop over and have something small to eat of a full meal. Do not expect for anything special, even that it looks like in the wilderness, it is just the usual menu here. 

Transportation

 Gili_S Says:  There is normal bus connection from Rovaniemi to Kilpisjärvi and continue from here to Tromsø. There might be also from other destinations so check the links. Just remember, that in the winter the journey will take much more time then the summer. 

Walking

 Gili_S Says:  To explorer this area you will need to walk, there is no public transportation to the mountaintop, so put of your best shoes, take some water and go out to the nature. 

Drive

 Gili_S Says:  Best way to get here is of course by your own car, there are lots of things to see on the way but you will have to be careful with the reindeer on the road, so drive carefully.

 Gili_S Says:  There is a tourist shop also here, I thought being in the upper north more close to the nature I might find good barging here, but no way, it all looks like price system here, exactly the same rip off as any other place in Lapland :) 

Warnings Or Dangers

 Gili_S Says:  Besides getting frozen here, maybe the only danger thing is to have a road accident with the reindeer, so be careful with the reindeers on the road as there are many of them and you will see them everywhere. 

What to Pack

 Gili_S Says:   No need to mention, if you are here in the winter or summer you will need to have with you your best shoes, good hiking shoes or any climbing shoes will be the best. After all, this area here is one of the greatest one for hiking in northern Europe. In the local stores...

 Gili_S Says:  There is snow at the top of the mountains that is melting all summer long till the end of July or August. By September there will be new fresh snow already, there fore the streams will flow all summer with cold fresh water. 

The nature

 Gili_S Says:  The nature here is different from the usual in Finland, because of the cold and short summer the trees do not grow here much and it is party tundra. The more you climb the less plantation.

 Gili_S Says:  Kilpisjarvi located by the highest mountaintop in Finland over 1300 metres. It is also by the three border points where Sweden, Norway and Finland are meeting. This place is one of the most beautiful places in Lapland where you can do ski in the winter, hiking in the summer...

 I have been to Kilpisjärvi few times, but always on July which is fantastic with the 24 hours sunshine and lucky me, also 24 degrees Celsius :) This place is one of the best you can imagine for hiking...
