Favorite thing: Behind this nice construction, the University of Lapland can be seen. There are enough other places you can see at a walk, like the Ethnographic Museum or the Forestry Museum. You just need some time to see around...

Favorite thing: This place must be not so close to your houses, I suppose... Napapiiri is a dreamland for children, younger or oldest! Being at the village of Santa Claus, you can see there his post office, the chair where he sits and meets thousands of friends (he speaks many languages!), the people who help him with his difficult work: to satisfy children all over the countries...
Since the end of 1998, Santa Park was opened to the crowd, it must be another magical world, next to Santa Claus' Village (for further details go to "www.santapark.com").

Favorite thing: Sit down in a cozy house, watch out of the window, eat the fruit salads and Oltermann cheeze, drink Lapin Kulta beer. Go to a sauna to check if it is hot enought. Beeing in Rovaniemi, I spent a week doing so.
Fondest memory: Salads with pineapples, meat with pineapples, everything with pineapples. One may guess that's a national fruit here. Photo from this small, but nice gallery.

Favorite thing: When you come to Rovaniemi by plane, the very first thing you see when you walk out of the airport are these reindeer (U. K. Kärri 1996 ”Joulumaan porot”)! (Someone has said that our airport is the most modern airport in Northern Europe, But I really doubt that!)

Fondest memory: On my second day in rovaniemi , i was feeling a little under the weather , few too many hours spent in Mc Cuils , anyway the weather was absoulty great , so i headed down to the main square to see what was going on. Suprisingly there was a couple of hundred people sitting out and singing and dancing. Normal enough except they all were about three feet tall. Luckily it was'nt a result of the hangover , they were all children. Then it got a little strange, one group almost all had blond hair and the other group all had black hair. It was becoming a bit surreal. Anyway there is this guy beside me with a backpack ( Australian guy. By the way, they are everywhere, reckon if i look under my bed now i'd find one!) and he says it an evangelist thing going on with Finnish and Japanese children. Anyway there is this guy who is presiding over it all , sounds american , wait he's wearing dodgy shorts , so he could well be. Soon enough the singing and all ends and he stands up and thanks god ect. Then in deference to jesus i suppose he starts on a parable.
' When i was going to estonia i got a boat from stockholm and i met a girl , and god was she cute , about 17 years old with black hair and lucious smooth skin. I asked her if she was swedish and she replied that she was estonian. She asked me about myself and what america was like'
ERRR THIS SOUNDS LIKE A FUNNY SORT OF PARABLE YOU'RE TELLING HERE MATE!!!
' I told her where i lived and showed her a photo of my house and my wife. She was very interested in me and I have to admit i was flattered, She was one of the most beautiful girls i had ever seen and i admit i felt lustful.'
SLOW DOWN HERE BUD, YOU WORK WITH CHILDREN??????
When i had finsihed in estonia I got the same boat back and the same girl came up to me on the boat, this time here hair was blond and she asked me if I liked it. I replied that i did, I really did. She asked me what it would take for me to bring her to America'
OK at this point i got to start asking myself what the hell this guy was on about, like interesting enough but not really new testament material. And like this guy is taking care of kids!! Anyway at this point i felt a tad too hungry to listen and the story was getting a little tedious , most of the people there could'nt understand what he was talking about ( Reckon he was lucky , would have been lynched if they did).

Favorite thing: Rovaniemi - the Capital of Lapland an international, developing town of business, administration and education, is located at the confluence of Lapland’s mighty rivers Kemijoki and Ounasjoki. As the capital
of the province, Rovaniemi has always been a gateway to Lapland.
Rovaniemi has maintained contact with the surrounding countryside but the urban infrastructure creates opportunities for deveploment and also provides versatile educational and cultural facilities. Within 10 kilometers from the city centre you can find undisturbed nature or a busy international airport. Rovaniemi remembers its past but is not afraid to look into the future. People enjoy living here and are also friendly towards visitors.
Fondest memory: Arktikum at Rovaniemi is a science centre and museum focusing on the Arctic regions and presenting the life, natural habitats, history, customs and cultures of the peoples living north of the Arctic Circle. Arktikum is also a meeting and conference centre and a sight in itself.

Favorite thing: In summer time I would go to near the riverside. It is very beautiful. and of course during the midnight sun you must be outside and spend some good time with your friends.
In winter time you have to see santa's 'home' called pajakylä. And of course the center of the city in christmas time. it is very beautiful.
Fondest memory: City is just some nice. it is quite a small, but i like that size. Also the night life is so great. And the nature is pure and people are nicer than in the bigger cities.

Favorite thing: If you always suspected that santa clause was'nt just a fairy tale, then you will find your answer here !!
Rovaniemi houses the real thing, even though Sweden say the same thing!! The atmosphere is PURE christmas all year round, covered in snow, and suger wrapped with reindeer and elves, a place for all the children inside of us!!

Favorite thing: You really must visit santa clause's village right on the arctic circle.
Fondest memory: We had heard so much about the northern lights, how pretty they were etc.but nothing could have prepared us for the spectacular vision of seeing them. Fingers of colour sweeping across the skies,in all colours of the rainbow.A beautiful sight that will stay with me for a long time.
