Elina, me and Heidi just by a cool waterfall! by Fjord87 A good backpack. Take also some big plasticbacks if your backpack doesn't have a raincover. Pack all your clothes and matches into plastic bags.
Clothes both for warm and cooler weather. (This packing list is for summer/autumn). Take t-shirts, longer shirts and one wollen shirt for the nights. Mostly it's wiser to use long pants, but shorts are okey if it's REALLY hot. (Which I doubt). Long pants recommended because your legs will suffer from mosquitoes and scratching sticks if they're not protected with pants. Swimming suite is a MUST!! :) You know, Finland's famous for it's lakes and you can never know when you find a perfect place for swimming! Take a hat, it's important. When hiking, you might get a sunstroke if not wearing a hat.
A viper- medecinepack is useful (viper is the only poisonous snake we have in Finland). Take a roll of toilet paper too. And of course the usual toothbrush and stuff! :) Take a towel for nice swimming sessions. And mosquitoe repellent, of course!
CAMERA!! Water and lightproof film-boxes if you don't have a digicam.
A small, very light tent. It's nice to have a light, rollable camping mattress, too. Take a sleeping bag with you, of course!
Take a plastic cup, plate and a knife, a fork and a spoon. Take foods that are easy to carry, you can buy fast-cooking meals from the supermarkets. IMPORTANT! Take a bottle for water!! It should be packed in a place where it's easy to find during the hike. You'll need a lot of water. There are several places where you can get clean springwater in almost every hiking-path there is in Finland. THE WEBSITE contains pictures of a hike we were on last summer. I'm the girl who usually wears a red t-shirt. :P Leave a Comment

Take extremely warm clothing with you (skiing at -30 degrees is a real experience that you shouldn't miss!), a headlamp is a good idea because there are only 4 hours of twilight, the rest is darkness. Leave a Comment

If you planning hiking, not too heavy staff, it’s nice to feel light and you usually do not need to carry water with you.
Good shoes is a must, even in the summer you will need a good jacket as it getting very cold at night, it has happened that our toothpaste was just about freezing in the morning. Also recommending a thick leather jacket or so, that the mosquitoes cannot bite through because they will get through your normal cloths, jeans and wind jackets
In the local stores and gas station you can buy mosquitoes repellent etc. You will surely need it in the summer and just for the information, the mosquitoes here are twice the size of mosquitoes which are for instance in the southern Europe region
What ever you have, take with you. You will never regret it. Don’t plan to buy additional items in Finland, they cost more here, but films are rather cheap. Buy the films already in Helsinki or the south of Finland, it might cost you more in the north and surely will cost you more in the Norwegian side
Good sleeping bags; we always go to camp on the higher mountains in the Tunturi region or in the Norwegian side. The mosquito’s doe’s not like the cold and then you can sleep batter at night and get back to the valleys & rivers in the daytime.

Comfortable walking shoes / Snow shoes Coat / rain coat / snow coat, umbrella, woll gloves, scarf

Winter clothes all the way (if it is winter). Most of the people who come from "warmer" places are not used to freezing cold and need more clothes to stay warm than native people. -35C is killing cold to some people. Have good winterboots, gloves, wollen cap and thermojacket and -pants. Leave a Comment

something practical such as a good rucksack.
Layers. Layers are really important. And invest in some warm and sturdy winter boots. The pavements ARE slippy so you need good grips. A warm coat, a pipo (hat) and a scarf plus some thick gloves. Layer your clothes and believe me you need a few trouser layers too!
Remember your camera but be aware batteries run out faster in the severe cold

Sun in the North can be dangerous for your eyes. by Scandic It is all about time when you are going to travel, but don't forget your sunglasses if your trip will take place in Spring time. Even sun doesn't warm, it doesn't faid out the UV rays. Snow doubelize the effect of rays, so remember bring your sunglasses as well a sun block. There is nothing more greater sport than skating or skiing at Spring light on the ice, but prepare well to keep your day enjoyable. Leave a Comment
