Cumulus restaurant: Don't miss the raindeer ...

Cabbage rolls.

There are several restaurants in Rovaniemi.
Depends of how much you want to spend and what you want to eat. From chinese, to lappish to the world known MacDonalds, you have it all there. Even a pizza...or something that looks like a pizza....
But Cumulus Hotel restaurant have good food, good ambience so as Martina restaurant, but this one looks like a "all kind and no kind" of food.

Normally people from south europe may have some problems with finnish flavours.
So don't start asking for food that you don't have the smallest idea if you will like it or not. Ask for help, look for a sample, or you will be sorry and frustrated.

Favorite Dish: Well, get the raindeer dish. A unique flavour

A great restaurant/bar in the centre of Rovaniemi.

Students get a 15% discount (show your student card when you order your food)

Find the whole menu here: http://www.comicobar.fi/images/comico_menu.pdf
It is also the funnies menu I have ever seen with the great comics included! :)

They also organise different kinds of events in the restaurant

Favorite Dish: My favourite one is the vegetarian burrito, extra tasty and really filling too!

.Zoomit.: DCWS = drink coffee with style.

Zoomit interior. Sorry about the bad photo.

Zoomit is a modern, cool and stylish bar/cafe in the centre if Rovaniemi. It's situated just below the luxurious Hotel Santa Claus, on street level and in a place you can see the central square of Rovaniemi.

During the day Zoomit is described like this: "Scent of the special coffees and cakes seduce you to spend a moment watching people around you or behind the wall-size windows. " You can also have specially flavoured (for example blueberry or banana) soft drinks, tasty brown coffee or a creamy hot chocolate and many other drinks and foods.

During the night Zoomit merges into a nightclub/bar. Here's how it's described in the ad: "During the evening the music changes, people gather together to enjoy each others company while our ZoomIt-bartenders make the best drinks in town. "

Most of Zoomits customers are youth, but during the day I have seen even little kids with their parents or older couples.

The furnishing and general atmosphere in Zoomit is youthful, modern and warm-coloured. Most of the tables have red, very comfortable sofas as their seats, but there are also barchairs. Tables are made of dark wood and match all the other colours. So it's kind of a perfect coffee break here! ;)

OH AND ONE MORE THING!!!!
If you wanna meet local youth, go to Zoomit! Specially after three o'clock on normal working days many youth go there and hang around with friends, and of course when the night comes... ;)

Favorite Dish: I LOVE the specially flavoured soft drinks, and my own favourite is strawberry. The drink comes in a relatively big glass with crushed ice, a straw, a decoration and a piece of some fruit.

There are many flavours... coconut, strawberry, cola, blueberry, banana, vanilla... etc etc. JUST TRY IT!!!

Lordi's Rocktaurant: Hard Rock Eating!
Jusba profile photo
Jusba 27 reviews

How can you describe a restaurant that was built after the Finnish Eurovision win of heavy metal band Lordi - well you describe it as a rocktaurant! If you want to have a different kind of atmosphere while eating, here you can find it. The menu is seen in the internet and also some view of how the place looks like. Im guessing its not a family oriented place..... ;)

Favorite Dish: Well it is special, you cant argue with that!

Salmon: Traditional Food

Local Salmon

This is not really a restaurant tip, but rather a tip of what you should be eating whilst being up here in Lapland.
Salmon is found all over and the traditional way to prepare it is "nailed" with wooden nails on a wooden board and then close to the open fire. Sounds odd? Try it when you are here... it is phenomenal!

Kauppayhtiö Café: Retro Coffee
Fjord87 profile photo
Fjord87 48 reviews
The old building looks retro even from the outside
4 more images

Idea
Café Kauppayhtiö has a very unique idea for a coffee house! EVERYTHING is for sale if you name a price and bargain a little! The furniture is mostly retro from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s and despite the mixture of different styles, it is amazingly stylishly furnished. It has a lot of details and you could spend a half an hour just looking around the coffee house. Also, the atmosphere allows you to do so, even if you don't buy anything!

Specialities
There's a pool table and free wlan for customers, as well as a laptop with internet connection for the customers to use. There are old antique pianos, other instruments, old toys, LP's, old sports equipment and you are allowed to touch ANYTHING. There's also a photo exhibition of Rovaniemi before it was bombed, and there are always some pieces of art made by local artists.

Comfiness
While drinking coffee or having a delicious lunch baguette you will be sitting on comfortable living room couches from earlier decades and there's space for big or small groups of people. Usually when me and my friends go there, there are some 10 of us and we can all fit around one table.

Music
The music is usually soft rock/indie/chill rock type which creates a nice coffee-housey bohemian retro feeling.

Atmosphere
The atmosphere is like you would visit a dear friend. You don't have to buy anything if you're not up for it, you can just chill. Once I went there during opening time and the rolls hadn't come out of the oven yet when I bought one, so the guy who owns the place decided to give me discount. 5 minutes later he came next to my laptop with a GIGANTIC , fresh, out-of-the-oven roll on a tray in his hands. YUMMY. The service is incredibly friendly.

Pictures
Finally, here are some PICTURES!
And some more: Kauppayhtiö!

Favorite Dish: You are going to love the smoothies/milkshakes they make from any two ice cream flavors you want. Also the lunch baguettes which you can choose yourself are wonderful. It's also easy to eat here if you're vegetarian; the baguette table has a lot of vegetables.

Golden Rax Pizzabuffet Rovaniemi: when u are hungry , very hungry but out of money!
Rick2001 profile photo

2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Rick2001 20 reviews

It's a finnish "all U can eat" buffet chain spread all over Finland and Sweden.
Every person pays 7.45€ and 4,70 for kids (ad 1€ if U want icecream too) and then U can take everything U want as many times as u want. The soft drinks are also included (coke, light cole, Sprite, Fanta and many more) as much as coffe/tea... refill as much as u want.
Only beer is extra.
In the middle of the hall there is a table with 4 - 5 kinds of different pizzas cut into many slices , 2 soups, 2 kind of salads, some meat (chicken wings, when I ate there, but maybe the menu vary every day, I don't know) and nacho chips with different sauces both for the chips and for the salads.

The place is clean and welcoming. The food is good .

Favorite Dish: Pepperoni pizza. Well it's not like an original italian one, but for being Finnish is not bad at all.

The best thing about Rax is that U can freely choose what u want to eat , how much , how many times without restrictions, and for less than 8 €uro seems a good deal for me.

My tip is to take advantage of rax when u are in hurry between two different safaris (tipically the morning one finist just before 12.00 and if U have booked an afternoon safari it will begin at 2.00 pm ) and U don't have time to spend in a restaurant or u want to eat without spending too much.

I suggest to go eat to the Monte Rosa Restaurant inside the City Hotel, prices are not that high, and compared with the quality is really a taste of good

Then you can have a nice drink in the Kellari pub downstairs and watch hockey.

Snowroad: Lappish snack

While your obligatory visit to Santa Claus Village to meet Santa and to do souvenir shopping you may need a moment of silence with some snack. The host cooks the salmon on open fire as well as coffee.

Christmas carols can't reach your ears here either ;o)

Favorite Dish: The one and only dish available, salmon fried on open fire. Whether with potato salad or without. Cup of coffee also made on fire. Tasty stuff!
