I have been visiting Lapland with a car and it took us about 10 hours only to get to Rovaniemi, so the best will be to fly but you can also take the night train from Helsinki to Rovaniemi.

by plane: many flights
by train: direct night trains from Helsinki
Best is to rent a car (Hertz Rovaniemi: markus.mattanen@hertz.fi), bus, and, of course, on the skis!
