Favorite thing: The towns of Tornio and Kemi, as well as Haparanda across the border in Sweden, have a combined population of approximately 75.000. Today the region has an important role as a link between East and West.
Favorite thing: This cannon can be found beside the road to the harbour of Röyttä. It's the Lapland War Artillery Monument (1944-1945 ). The Lapland War began properly in Tornio with the landing on the 1st October 1944. Initially, the fighting was hampered by the lack of artillery. It was not until the 6th October when artillery was obtained, and the Finns were able to defeat the German troops.
Favorite thing: The Tornio River is the longest free-flowing major river in Northern Europe that gains its might from faraway northern arctic hills. The nature of the river changes with each season, giving no forewarning of its surprises.
Favorite thing: Hartwall is one of the biggest brewing companies in Finland, and here in Tornio they own the Lapin Kulta Brewery.
