luciano Says: If you want to stay in a cottage in the Kuusamo area, better contact Matka-Ruka agency.The range of prices varies according to the capacity (number of people) and facilities. We stayed at one of the cheapest; it was € 30 per night. They have a good online booking system.
luciano Says: I mean it: there is no restaurant or food store in the area, just a small cafe in the camping site.Local people go to Kuusamo for their shopping. We knew it before arriving to Juuma when we saw a lady with supermarket bags in the bus.
luciano Says: There is a daily bus from Kuusamo station at 9:00 and another one at 14:30, it costs €6.70 and it takes almost one hour.The return bus to Kuusamo is at 15:30.
luciano Says: Mosquito repellent is essential in June/July, but we didn't need it at all in August. Cottages seem to be well equipped with cooking utensils and all, but you'll need to bring your own bed linen and towels.And of course, FOOD!
luciano Says: We were having breakfast in the cottage whem we saw this reindeer passing by our window.Ignoring we were there, he wandered around, munching some berries and moss, behaving like he was in his own backyard. Well, wasn't he?
luciano Says: I love rowing, and the last time I had had the opportunity to do it was three years before, in Ireland.My girlfriend had never rowed before, and she also enjoyed it very much.
luciano Says: We were wonderfully alone. We had a whole lake (Riekamojärvi, 1 km x 500 m) just for us!(That's me in the picture)
luciano Says: Using the sauna was also an unforgettable experience. And so it was to go out and stand naked by the lake, not feeling cold at all even when the air temperature was below 10 degrees C.Sorry, no photo: she'd kill me! :-)

Juuma village is in the Kuusamo province near the Oulanka National Park. It has a camping site with cabins, and it's used as a base for the Pieni Karhunkierros (Little Bear's ring) hiking trail.
