Manamansalo is also an excellent destination for cyclists. The bicycle trails of Manamansalo Island have a connection trail to Manamansalo camping ground.
The Manamansalo camping ground rents canoeing and rowing boats on Lake Särkinen of Manamansalo Island.
There are landing places for sailing and motor boats at the Manamansalo Island harbour, Kuoston Kulma of Kuostonsaari Island and on the islands of Kaarresalo and Honkinen. You should have your own boat though..
The recreational fishing area of Manamansalo consists of 13 small forest lakes where originally live the Whitefish (Goregonus lavaretus), the Pike (Esox lucius) and the Perch (Perca fluviatilis).
In addition, Rainbow trouts (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Arctic chars (Salvelinus alpinus), Lake salmons (Salmo salar m. sebago) and Trouts (Salmo trutta) have been planted in lakes Särkinen, Syväjärvi, Iso-Peura, Soikko-Peura and Kota-Peura. Lakes Särkinen and Iso-Peura are the most popular fishing places, also in the winter.
Wild North fishing permit (no 5571, Manamansalo) is needed for fishing in the recreational fishing area. Lure fishing, fly fishing, angling and ice fishing are allowed. A fisherman can have two fishing lines at most. Fishing permits are sold in the reception of Manamansalo camping ground and in a machine at the gate of the area.

Kajaani castle was built in 17th century. First stage of Kajaani castle construction was 1604-1619. Second stage began 1650s and finished 1666. Builder of second stage was Count Peter Brahe. Castle functioned as a governing centre, prison and refuge for locals during times of persecution.
Nowadays there are only roofless walls left of the castle. It is still worth of visiting while staying in Kajaani.

Outside Kajaani, in the countryside of Vuolijoki, the museum of Local History shows how local people lived during the last centuries.
The museum offers some houses, an old sauna a windmill and other buldings. The interiors are rebuilt as it was in the past, with authentical objects collected from the local people.
It is a small museum with not many visitors, so be prepared that the guide speaks only finnish and even then not much. But it is interesting anyway.
