Aurinkohiekat & Camping: Small Camping

Aurinkohiekat & Camping: Small Camping, Kalajoki

Gili_S Says:  There are two camping sites in Kalajoki, I choose this time this small place, as it is very peaceful and relax. It is missing some facilities that you might find in the bigger camping's but as it was only a short stopover on the way to Lapland it was good enough in this...

Hotelli Rantakalla: Hotelli Rantakalla

Hotelli Rantakalla: Hotelli Rantakalla, Kalajoki

Gili_S Says:  This is one of the local hotels here. Typical Finnish local resort hotel, basic facilities, bar, restaurant etc. Because of this popular destination it is also over charging, but if you still want to boot it, be sure you make reservations well in advance.

Camping-Hiekkasarkat: Big Camping

Camping-Hiekkasarkat: Big Camping, Kalajoki

Gili_S Says:  This is a large camping ground and obviously very crowded in the heat of the summer. It is very popular with local Finns as well as for tourists. The disadvantage of this big camping is that you might need to queue for the kitchen or showers, and you will not have a bit of...

Gili_S Says:  Well, as you are not exactly in the city, one of the best places around here is actually the gas station restaurant, store, fast food burger, coffee shop, toilet and whatever you might need for your Nordic tour. In photo 2 for example you can see my breakfast snack of...

Morning coffee

I was here on early July, the nights were total white and the mosquitoes were the size of the dragonflies, so the best and safe activity were in my cosy tent, after few drinks of course ;-)

Visiting here less then a month after Dune 45 I must admit that the dunes here are not really impressive, but in a local terms of sun and sand, they are nice and interesting, so you should take a walk to see the dunes around here as well.

Favorite thing: Large sandy beaches of the Gulf of Bothnia in Kalajoki are very popular, especially around midsummer.

Fondest memory: JukuJukuMaa is worth a visit. The rides and other activities are fun but not too wild and therefore it is especially suitable for families with smaller children. However, kids - regardless of age - love it!
