    Due to a poor city center, at least Oulu has a nice big market square. In summer you could find the outdoor market almost everyday, and many terrasses tohave a drink. In winter it is more quiet,but the architecture of typical wooden houses make this part of the city very nice. The picture shows ice statues from last winter, and there was an ice rink as well in the middle. In the yellow houses you can find souvenirs shops with Lappish handcrafts.

    If you travel to Oulu between June and September, you may see these wonderful fountain lights top of the sea, next to Merikoski bridges. About one kilometer from downtown=)

    It's quite bright on July, so lights look better when it darker, like on August.

    Oulu Cathedral located in the city centre is about 200 years old and very beautiful one. This time in the heat of the summer I did not go in.

    The water and sea around Oulu are just fantastic, you can swim, you can sail, you can fish, actually lots of activities in this city related to water and sea.

    The following link brings you to THE map of Oulu. It includes almost all official interests, from cross-country tracks and panOULU hotspot locations to empty buidling lots. The map also includes the community of Kempele and the island Hailuoto.
    In my opinion for a 'first-time-user' the map might seems a little unhandy, but here a short help how to get the most of it:

    Finding an address:
    1.) Open the link below...
    2.) Click on the little flags on the top right for your language of choice (English, Finnish, Swedish)
    3.) Enter the address into the uppest edit-field and click the arrow just right of it.
    4.) The search result will be shown on the screen.
    Remark: Notice the house numbers on the map!

    But the map has MUCH more to offer...
    Finding YOUR points of interest (e.g. panOULU WLAN-Accesspoints):
    1.) Open the link below...
    2.) Click on the little flags on the top right for your language of choice (English, Finnish, Swedish)
    3.) Click on 'Detailed search'... a small window will appear with categories.
    4.) Find the entry 'panOulu Access points' and click the '+' in front to view the different subcategories.
    5.) Choose the entry 'panOULU Access points in' by clicking on it for finding the running ones. Clicking it will add it to the choices in the box just on the right.
    5.1) You could now add also other categories.
    6.) Press the arrow on the top right of this small window and your results will be displayed on the map.
    7.) Close the small window by clicking on the red button in its top right corner.
    8.) On the left of the map you will now find all entries listed you just have found.
    9.) Click on one of the symbols on the map. A new browser window will open and show you details about the Access point. Similar information you will get to most of the points of interest.

    The Neo-Classic Cathedral was built in 1777 and it was named after King Gustavus III’s spouse Sofia Magdalena. The big fire of 1882 destroyed several parts of the former wooden Cathedral. It was rebuilt to its former shape but instead of wood stone was used.

    I was told that the crypt is interesting to see. I couldn't see it due to a wedding which was held inside during my stay.

    Opening hours:

    daily from 11.00am to 8.00pm

    After a long ride we stopped in Oulu and saw a huge park next to the parking lot. We went there and were quite surprised of its size. It seemed almost all inhabitants of the town were in the park walking, skating or cycling.

    Later at home I found out that this park belongs to the university and contains world's northernmost botanical garden. There are also to glassy pyramids in the park, called "Romeo and Juliet ".

    This statue is The monument in Oulu, caring for the public order in the city every days and nights all year long. You could see him at the market square next to the river.
