People lived 5,000-7,000 years ago in Kierikki along the river Iijoki on the sandy banks near the mouth of the river. The sea carried a salty breeze to the area. The village had different kinds of buildings, single and semi-detached houses. Sometimes large row houses were built, which are Kierikki's specialty.
There is a half-a-kilometre long trap path leads from the Stone Age village through the forest passed traps from ancient historical times. You will become familiar with the different traps used for trapping bears and foxes, among others. The path leads back to the Stone Age village and through the village to Kierikki Stone Age Centre's main building. Also suitable for people with wheelchair.
There is a restaurant and a nice newly built wooden log hotel near the village.
In the main building the Stone Age Centre Kierikki, there is an archaeological exhibition and a souvenier shop where you can buy special things made by local people. They all are Stone Age related.

The restaurant has a daily buffet lunch from May to September. The buffet includes the soup of the day, the salad of the day, one warm dish, bread and butter, milk, water or home made sweat beer. It is worth the 10e, you can eat as much as you like. Also coffee is included in this price. There are 100 seats, 25 outside on the terrace.
Favorite Dish: I ate home made huge meatballs and fresh potatoes with a lovely brown sauce. So delicious and good! You can also taste local specialities as reindeer.

Spend an exiciting night under the beautiful stars of the northern sky. There is a special place in the Stone Age Village of the Kierikki Stone Age Centre where you can sleep in a stone aged wooden house by the river. Eat by the camp fire and imagine how the people used to live in the Stone Age. Very romantic, very exciting and very, very unique!
Dress Code: Wear comfortable clothes, prepare for rain or cooler nights.

If you are driving a car, be careful! Yli-Ii is the most southern reindeer area in Finland. It means you can see reindeer on the road while driving in this village. So, be careful. Otherwise these pieces of danger are beautiful animals to watch from a distance.

Favorite thing: Just drive along the riverside from the village Ii towards another beautiful village Yli-Ii. It is a wonderful countryroad that runs thru old farmhouses, fields of hay and cows and the river Ii by the road.
The rivers Ii and Siurua are good for fishing and swimming, also boating or kajaking. But most of all it is a very beautiful country village with only less than 3000 people living there.
Fondest memory: Fishing is for spike, trout or salmon is the best thing you can do here. Or wander around the endless forests and swamps. Explore the fresh nature and air.
