When coming for winter sporting purposes into Finland, bag should be big, light and green. White one can be lost in the snow. Warm underwear esp. during JAN-FEB. Helly Hansen or Craft are best ones tested. Special warm winter sporting socks, sporting gloves and cap, SUNGLASSES (Oakley, Serengeti or similar) ! Jägermeister. Digital camera with red nose filter (for reindeers only) would be nice. Halti (or similar) winter sport suit: water resistant but breathing, skiing boots can be rented. Skiing equipment, lot´s of different waxes for different kind of weather and path conditions.

All depends on how you plan to move around the country; back pack, heavy luggage... Appropriate for the type of trip you plan. But one thing is for sure; do take lots of warm clothes with you if you come during the winter months (October-March)!!! The Finnish winter is cold&long...Summer time is lovely here, only too short. Shorts etc. will do, but take the rain gear with you; summer showers are quaranteed. Everything is available here, no need to carry extra baggage. Getting the right stuff for your camera should be easy everywhere in Finland. Also digital pictures will be printed atleast in some of the photoshops, information is also availabe online e.g. www.eirikuva.fi. Mosquitos... Be prepared to fight them, esp. up north in Lappland (and there they are huge!!!) during the summer months. The only good thing is that the climate is not right for malaria...

Even in summer it can be quite cold so don't forget a jumper. But it can be reaaaally hot, too! In summernights there are mosquitos everywhere (apart from in the city!) -- But don't bring your mosquito spray! Buy some there, it's definitely stronger! Take a dictionary. It will help you in restaurants when there is no English menu! Otherwise you might be quite lost!!!

It's better you bring a raincoat with you. I hate umbrellas, cause I forget them everywhere, but at times you strongly need them so... bring it too. Weather changes abruptly and many times a day. My standard formula in northern countries is dressing in multiple layers so that you don't remain just with your bra if suddenly it's hot. If you're a girl, better you bring also some trousers with you, particularly useful in the countryside as a barrier against mosquitos. If you scratch too much (due to everywhere haunting mosquitos) it's time to buy an antistaminic. The lipstic-like one I used gives you instant relief. It's named ETONO 20 mg/g (you find it at any Finnish Chemistry). Always bring it with you in your pocket/bag.

Take warm clothes even in summer

Despite of 16 or more hours of sunshine in summer it can get really cold in Lapland. We have experienced two nights with frost in August.

If you are visiting Finland in the winter pack your bags full of warm clothes! I'm sure you don't want to spend your entire holiday in the hotel just because you forgot your winter garments.
