This is a traditional coffee mug made of one piece of birthroot. It has been traditionally made in Lapland for centuries. But you must be careful, there are now some massive productions such items and they are not the real ones. Best would be to buy it in Lapland.
Aout 35 euro in the south, a bit cheaper in Lapland. Leave a Comment Theme: Local Craft

Saluhallen is a local market hall situated at the harbour in the city of Helsinki. Saluhallen is a Swedish word mainly to attract Swedish visitors as there are many visitors travelling by ferries from Stockholm throughout the year. In fact there are daily departures by Viking Line and Silja Line between Helsinki and Stockholm. Saluhallen has a lot to offer especially to local and foreign tourists. Wide range of fresh food are on sale at the market hall such as fresh seafood and other meat like chickens and porks, local sausages, canned food and drinks. For those who are hungry and thirsty, several cafés, bars and restaurants are located in the market hall for you to chill out!

The flea market at the harbour of Helsinki is located just outside Saluhallen (Market Hall) at the harbour between Viking Line and Silja Line terminals. You can purchase your favourite Helsinki and Finland souvenirs from the market at reasonable prices. Local arts and crafts can also be purchased from the stalls. Fried small fishes are very popular at the market. We certainly enjoyed eating these fried little fishes.
Helsinki souvenirs, hand-made local handicrafts and fried little fishes are highly recommended.
Cheaper than those in the outlets in the city centre. Leave a Comment Theme: Local CraftDirections: Located just outside Saluhallen (Market Hall) at the harbour between Viking Line and Silja Line terminals.

If you happened to travel by flight, you can leave some of your shopping for the airport. Some items will be cheaper there, especially if you fly out of the EU, as you will be entitle to pay tax free for items.
Alcohol for example will be half price. Cosmetics items will be cheaper as well. Penna Design and Kalevala products are available here as well. Leave a Comment

There is a unique wooden art designer in Tampere, Finland, it’s 'Penna Design' and is one of the most unique style of art I ever saw in my life. It is hand made of pure Finnish birch wood. You can find his work of art in selected souvenirs stores as well Stockmann department store in the big cities and at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport.

If you want to take with you home a sample of Finnish beer, maybe its better to wait for your departure and buy this excellent Finnish Doublebock beer made by Olvi. It is strong, it taste good and much better then the average waterish Finnish lagers. I am not sure now if they have it at the airport but surely they have this beer on the ferries that goes to Sweden or Estonia. Leave a Comment

There are numerous shopping centres in and around Helsinki. Surely best known are Stockmann, Sokos and Forum in the absolute focus of the city of Helsinki. Around Helsinki you find some malls like Itäkeskus (easyly accesible by metro), and Jumbo (by bus), Iso Omena (by bus) and others. More over, big foreign companies have errected huge, massive shopping areas here and there for instance IKEA, Gigantti and ON/OFF (electronics), Stadium (sports gear) and Bauhaus (building tools)
Virtually anything.
The range is large! From dumping to exclusive prices. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Capitol area.

The Esplanad park is a rectangular green area in the prime spot of Helsinki. North and south of it there are two rather luxurious shopping streets, the Northern and the Southern Esplanad. Here you find special design shops and merchandise at a special price ; )
Anything! From well-known Alvar Aalto furniture to famous Marimekko clothes. In Decembre there is a Christmas market in the park, always good for some snappies.
Prices are rather high in this area. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: City-centre - Ydinkeskusta.
