Water, water everywhere :-) by SanguiniA The picture just goes to show that nature is at its best everywhere in Finland ... this pic was taken just a few KM from Oulu ... and just a few hundred metres off the main road. So my point here is just explore everywhere, you never know what you might find in the land of the thousand lakes :) Already here in central Finland the nature is more dominating ... further north in Lapland things get even better! Leave a Comment Directions: Just explore around, there are countless more places like this - find your own :)

Finnish Riviera by musti72 Who would think about that when speaking about Finland?! Kilometers of beautiful sandy beach! It is called Yyteri, the most famous beach in Finland. Ok the water isn't too warm and not so blue as in other countries more south, but it is a nice experience anyway, especially if it's July and very hot. There are plenty of possibilities for outdoor recreation. Leave a Comment

The Archipelago circle route! A road that drives trough the most beautiful archipelago in the world. It begins from Turku and goes trough, towns/cities that are built on islands; Parainen-Pargas, Nauvo-Nagu,Korppoo-Korpo,Houtskari-Houtskär, Iniö, Kustavi-Gustavs and ends in Turku and of course you can travel it the other way too! And where the road ends you´ll go on with a ferry, actually four of them. It´s opened in 1996 by the Southwestern Maritime District and it increases its popularity year by year. This year the ring road traffic will be run daily from 24th of may to 19 th of august. It´ll take about 12-16 hours to drive trough this route, but I recommend that you stay at least one night and see the sunset and sunrise, all the moscitos, maybe take a sauna somewhere, drink maybe couple of beers or ciders and just enjoy the cenery, it´s undiscribable. Experience the finnish nature at it´s beauty.... Most of the islands that you will see are inhabited also during winter months, and these ferries make it possible to make permanent living on these islands. In winter time it gets really cold and windy, so you have to give some gredit for these people who live here..... Leave a Comment Other Contact: Southwestern Maritime District:

Winter in Lapland by finlandia Finland is the home country of Santa Claus. Santa lives on a fell called Korvatunturi (Ear Mountain) in the municipality of Savukoski. Santa can´t live on the North Pole because there isn´t anything to eat for his reindeer there. But in Finnish Lapland a reindeer is a very common animal and it has a lot of food there. There are about 200 000 reindeer in Finland. Eagles, foxes, swans and wood grouse are other common animals. The spruce is the most common tree in Lapland. Wild cloudberry and Arctic bramble are the two most highly valued berries of Lapland. Lapland is a paradise for all nature lovers! Lapland - Santa's home - is very beautiful: fells (i.e. arctic treeless mountains), the northern lights (Aurora borealis) during winter and the midnight sun (night-less days) during summer. During the summer the sun doesn´t set at all! The midnight sun is visible for 20 nights at the Arctic Circle and much longer in the most northern parts of Finland. Leave a Comment

The skijumping hills of Lahti by sabsi Go on top of the big jump and be scared! It's amazing that people actually ski down there, it's very very steep and sends me shivers down my spine everytime I visit!!! In summer the sight is even more amazing as there is a swimming pool where jumpers normally land their jumps. Afterwards don't miss the Ski Museum which is right next to the jumps. Try virtual skijumping, cross country skiing and biathlon there. I had such a laugh there! In winter the Lahti ski games take place here every year. Then you can watch x-country skiing and skijumping here. I hope to be going in March 2005 finally :). Leave a Comment Directions: Lahti is 100 kms north of Helsinki (direct Motorway!). The hill and the museum are at Urheilukeskus (Sports Centre).Other Contact: http://www.lahti.fi

by renita Visit to Aland Islands in the beautiful Finnish archipelago! There are around 6500 islands and skerries of Aland and most of them are located to the six archipelago municipalities. There's untouched nature, fresh air and the absolute quietness, but are also guest harbours, hotels, beaches and lots of activities and cultural sights. The Aland Islands belong to Finland, but it's self governed state. The island are demilitarized, which means that no armed forces may be stationed there. Leave a Comment Directions: The Aland Islands are located in the middle of Finland and Sweden in the archipelago. There are two ways to travel to - you can catch a flight or travel by ferry (Silja Line or Viking Line).Other Contact: http://www.goaland.net/
