Yet another delightful small lake in the Vantaa area ... I can never get enough of lakes in Finland .... lucky for me there are so many of them :-)) This one is particularly pretty to walk around, especially in winter a few minutes before sunset, especially in special company :-)
It may sound a bit crazy ... but Finland in winter is just amazing, especially if you come from a southern country like Malta where it never snows :-) The frozen lakes are charming, and the forests in winter have a more peaceful quiet atmosphere.
This is a delightful open-air museum located on an island just a few kilometres from Helsinki. On display are cottages and other buildings as well as boats depicting the traditional Finnish way of life. It was particularly charming to visit this place in winter ... just have a look at the pics to see why :-)
This is a small river in the Vantaa area ... ideal for a small stroll or just to relax a bit.In the medieval times the Vantaankoski area was an important traffic route & commerce area ... nowadays it is not the case of course. A factory was built in 1890, and sometime in the 1960's it was going to be demolished. Fortunately the local people understood the importance of preserving it and today it is a restaurant called Restaurant Kuninkaan Lohet (King's Salmon).
This is a nice nature reserve in Espoo, with some nice trails in the forest and a swampy area ideal for birdwatching (in season ie. spring/summer). There is also a birdwatching tower (from which the photo has been taken)Villa Elfvik is a sort of nature museum with exhibitions of nature-related items of the area.
Lake Bodom (Bodominj?rvi) is a lake in Espoo most notorious for the grisly murders of three teenagers that went camping (along with another teenager) on the shores of the lake in 1960. The case is still not solved.This lake is also the inspiration for the Finnish Melodic metal band "Children of Bodom" ... great Finnish export if you ask me :-)))
Finland is a great place to enjoy cycling - it is flat and there is some nice scenery. The little towns are great to cycle through too. Bikes are easy to find, and a cheap alternative to expensive transportation costs - and it is fun too! Finns love cycling so there are many cycling paths.
Located in the North of the Baltic sea, Oulu is one of the most prominent Finnish towns, with the sixth largest populaiton, the second largest university and the second busiest airport.
