Hitchhiking

by ginte

Before going there by hitchhike you should know that it's not common to hitch-hike in Finland anymore. But I should say that we were lucky enough as finnish people stopped their cars for us very often. Don't try to stop the cars on higways - it's forbidden to stop there. A good place for to catch a car: oil stations, some steps behind the last bus stop or some steps before the hihway starts. Enjoy! :)

To Finland you can come by car...

by FinElina

To Finland you can come by car from Russia, Sweden or Norway. By ship you can come from Germany, Sweden or Estonia. And by plane you can come from wherever! The best way to get around Finland is by car, I guess. Because that way you can stop wherever you want, and see whatever you want. You are not dependent on timetables of buses or trains. But in Finland you can travel by car, bus, train, plane or by walking!

Trams

by Tayto

HKL operate the public transport systems in Helsinki including the trams. The trams are a great way of getting around and the cost is 1.50 euro for prepaid (or 1.80 from the driver). These are vaild for an hour and you can transfer or take as many trams as your like. You can buy a Helsinki Tourist ticket for a day for 5.40 (10.80 for 3 day one) or the Helsinki Card for 25 euro per day (45 euro for 3 days) where the additional price gets you free into most of the museums etc. We found it easiest just to buy tickets as we needed them because we were staying in the city centre and most of the things we wanted to see were within reasonable walking distance. Two trams worth mentioning are the 3T and the Sparakoff tram. The 3T tram is a great way to see the city as it does a figure 8 loop through a lot of the main tourist attractions. We were in Helsinki the last weekend in October and did not...

By air, by sea, by bus, by car... All will do; some have even reached the country by bike!If in a hurry, take a plane, Finnair will fly you to all the bigger towns. To see more, you can travel by train, the service is good. Or by bus, car etc. And as the country is known for its thousands of lakes, there are ship also!!! Try eg. the boat from Jyväskylä down south all the way to Lahti, or you can make it all the way to Russia as well!!!

Good train connections

by Scandic

Railways work very well Finland. Trains are easy, cheap and comfortable way to travel in Finland. Trains take you almost everywhere and you can sleep and eat there.Foreign students who are studying in Finland get 50% off from tickets, as well as children from 12-16.Check out also travel passes around Finland. Very cheap and funny way to see more country. Many people travel by train to work everyday that is why VR (railways of state) has offered language courses for work travellers already one year. You can study for example Russian or Swedish while you are travelling to work. Easy, isn't it?
