This church might be the oldest in the Alsace and is a very good reason to pay Ottmarsheim a visit. It has an highly unusual octagonal shape, reverting to the Palatine chapel in Aachen (Germany). It was consecrated by pope Leo IX, an Alsatian nobleman, around 1050, but altered many times since. The steeple, for example, dates from the 15th century.
The spaciousness is the most striking feature of the interior. Some fine murals from the 15h century have survived.
