The parish church of today is a modern buidling from 1954-1958 that followed the destruction of the old during the Second World War in 1940.
The chancel on the other hand survived the bombings and can still be seen at the end of the nave with the baroque-style main altar from 1709.
Large glass stained windows illuminate the inside in all different kinds of colours.
In September 1968, Schwenkedel installed a new organ which replaced that of Stiehr-Mockers (famous Seltz organ-builders) dating from 1837 and destroyed in 1940.

The Place de la Mairie is where the Town Hall is situated on its southern end.
If you walk north you will continue into Rue principale and after some metres come to the Church St. Etienne.
