Strasburg, like the rest of France, is a great place for restaurants. You will find the traditional Alsatian food along with the exquisite French nouvelle cuisine.
Favorite Dish: Also in the Alsacian food there is a strong German influence. The most typical dish is the choucrout with pork meat and sausages. Not really a must for me, but at least I tried.

A sculpted wooden house from the 15th century, each of its four dining floors features a different decor. The last time I was there I called the waiter over to complain about my bill - it seemed to be less than half of what I should be paying. He explained to me that the restaurant wants to encourage the formation of young gourmets and therefore all of the children's meals (5!) were free of charge.
Favorite Dish: Choucroute du poisson

At La Cigogne there were at least three waiters, and there was a distinctly 'professional' rapport between them. When they weren't serving, they stood in the doorway and made comments about the patrons or other events nearby. While we were sitting at La Cigogne (The Swan), we were entertained by a couple of street musicians who were really quite good.
Favorite Dish: Suprème de Saumon à la crème de Riesling at 79 DM. This was the best salmon I had ever eaten. It had a mustard-Riesling sauce, and was served with green beans and potatoes. We also had Alsacian bread with our meal. For dessert, we split an Alsacian Apple Tart, another winner.

If you have enough of the very beautiful, but also very touristy old town restaurants with all their 'choucroute folklore' try 'Café Brant' next to the university, a typically Parisian café named after the author of the 'Narrenschiff' ('Ship of Fools').
They serve really good salads and draught beer.

Eat at Flunch, which is a chain of restaurants which adapts the 'buffet style' Good food and reasonable price. You can find one at the town centre near to the Tram station 'Homme De Fer'. I'm just standing in front of the building of Flunch.

A vegetarian meal in Strasbourg.
Favorite Dish: Pizza Chevre. Pizza with goats cheese, though being Alsace there was some concern it may be Pizza with goat! Washed down with a glass of Reisling, and sat on a terrace overlooking L'Ill and the Pont Couvert, this was a meal made in heaven.

A carnivore's delight, a vegetarian's worst nightmare.
Favorite Dish: Oh my god! Alsacienne food!! Do these people eat anything other than meat? Strasbourg is a virtual desert for the vegetarian, the choice being limited to the one or two Italian restaurants that we came across and the simply delicious cake shops. How can one region make such great cakes and such disgusting meat dishes?
There are five great dishes of Alsace, and most restaurants serve them all. It soon becomes apparent that you don't need to look at the menu anymore when deciding where to eat, you just choose on location, ambience, etc. The menu will be the same as any other place (by and large, anyway). Here are the five Alsace dishes.
Choucroute (see picture below). Sourkraut (fermented cabbage) served with a variety of different meats (at one sittng) and boiled potatoes.
Baekoffe. A hearty stew made from several different meats, with a little bit of veg thrown in for good measure.
Flammekuche (tarte flambe). Thin, pizza-like base spread with cream cheese and covered in onions and - you guessed it - a variety of meat. We managed to get one of these in Colmar without the meat - it was OK.
Bibelskaas. Sautee potatoes served with fine herbs, fromage frais and crudities. The english translation called it 'cottage cheese and chips'! We had it and the sautee potatoes had - yes you guessed it again - meat in it. The menu never mentioned this! I picked the meat out, my wife just left her entire meal. It's bizzare, you get enough fromage frais to feed a family of four. And you get that each! You cover your potatoes with it (the potatoes are hot, the fromage frais is cold - so it all ends up lukewarm). The crudities turned out to be grated vegetables soaked in vineger. Yuk again. Sorry, we hated bibelskaas. And we were petrified the couple on the next table might be having the 'calves head'!!!!
Kugelhopf. A sort of brioche done on a muffin pan, comes in two varieties, sec, with almonds and sugar, or sel, with meat, naturellement.
Other delights included pieds de porc (pigs feet), tete de vache (cows head) and foi de poulain (foals liver).
As Marie Antoinette said, 'let them eat cake'. We did, often, and with some gusto!!

It's a lovely little Salon de The (Tea room), gentile and quiet inside, with polite and attentive service.
Favorite Dish: Tea and Cakes. Wow, what cakes they serve here! We ended up eating here on several occasions and it was a delight every time. They also do hot food, though I think it's only on an evening.

Address: Place Broglie.
A few minutes drive outside Strasbourg city there is a place called 'LE NOUVEAU CHALET', with one of the best discos in France, 4 restaurants, 4 bars and 1 karaoke. I have been for dinner at the 'Villa Cuba', greatly decorated an the dinner was excellent! They gave us a free entrance for the disco (which would have cost 100 FFR which is rather expensive, but it's a nice place).
Favorite Dish: Everything is excellent!
