Local flavor shops, Strasbourg

Strasbourg is very famous for lot of number of high -end chocolate shops. In fact these shops is much look like chocolate jewelry shops. All chocolate creations and candies are like art. They are very delicious but the only problem is that prices are also seemed closer to jewelry store than to a candy store. But enjoy, life is only one!!!!!

After a very tough time spotting souvenir shops in Switzerland, we were on an early lookout for our “whatnots” during the time we spent in France. Sarah and I like to get a small trinket to put in our travel room of each country that we have visited. In Strasbourg, this was easily attained within walking distance in every direction from the main Cathedral. We ended up with a small hand painted house with the half timbered look that had a hand written “Strasbourg” on one of the timber structures. We also noticed there were a lot of stork paraphernalia, which I would assume means that it is the regional symbol for Alsace.

When we entered the street that the cathedral is located on, the first store that really catches your eye is La Cure Gourmande. Known as a Sucreuitier (Candy shop) and Biscuitier (Biscuit Shop), it wins first prize for presentation. Upon entering the store, an employee will greet you and offer you a sample of the biscuit of the day. Our small raspberry biscuit was quite delicious. Although we did not think that biscuits would keep on the long bumpy trip home, we did peruse their offerings to see if anything struck a fancy. We opted away from them, and onto the back of the house to look at the truffles. All of them looked magnificent, but we knew they would be directly applied to our love handles, so we skipped those and headed to the marzipan and hard candies. Again, we were offered a melon marzipan, which I did not care for, and a raspberry hard candy which was quite good. We ended purchasing an assortment of hard candies to put in a dish at home, as we felt it would not yearn for us to eat before we got home. Sure enough, 3 days later they are still 100% intact. Be careful if you decide to enter into this place, as there appears to be no turning back!

What to buy: Wide range of original and unique collections of decorative glass, vases, cups, glass figures, chandeliers, glass and strass jewellery, vitrages, and many more. Crystal and amber staining glass decorated by bright gold or platinum.

What to pay: Prices are very reasonable for the quality and original design.

Strasbourg has the most wonderful pastries and candies. Shops dedicated to these treats are all over town and have the most imaginative and tempting creations.

What to pay: Pretty pricey but worth every euro cent

Narrow streets and tiny stores on roadside make shopping something special. You do not find big department stores or shopping malls here.
