This is the European Parliament building. But it's complicated. There are two others. This is the most important one - where the entire parliament meets. The location of the building in Strasbourg, a city with its feet in France but its head in Germany, seems a fitting place and reflects the importance of the Franco-German alliance to the whole EU, just as the circular shape of the building reflects the shape of the debating chamber within.

The European Parliament has a huge impact on Strasbourg. When its 766 members, along with teams of support workers, convene for the regular plenary sessions, the price of hotels in Strasbourg can go through the roof.

After Brussels, Luxemburg and now Strassbourg, just outside the city center is the EU Parliament. The round building is totally different style than the one we have in Brussels. On the other side of the Parliament building is the Council of Europe. This area of the city is more like the political place

European Parliament is parliamentary institution of the European Union. EU Parliament has two meeting places. One here in Strasbourg namely the Louise Weiss building which serves for twelve four day plenary sessions per year and is the official seat, and the Space Leopold complex in Brussels. Parliament is composed of 736 member of the EU parliament who serve the second largest democratic electorate in the world (after India).

The European Parliament (not to be confused with the Council of Europe) whose seat is in Strasbourg is the legislative institution of the European Union.
With 27 Member States since 2007, it represents the 480 millions inhabitants of the EU and is the only institution elected by direct universal suffrage (since 1979) by the European citizens.

The LOUISE WEISS building (named after the great european militant and first president (even if for a single day : in 1979, for the first ever official session)) on the photo is where all parliamentary activity takes place and where the members’ offices are situated; It has been inaugurated in 1999 (the place was formerly the extended courtyard of the elementary school i used to go as a child).

Like all European institutions, the EP can be visited on appointment (see http://www.europarl.eu.int/abc/v for more infos)

Strasbourg is the seat of the European Parliament, seen here between two of the small houses in a nearby residential area.

The executive branch of the European Union is located in Brussels, and the judiciary is in Luxembourg. People in Strasbourg tend to scoff at the Parliament, saying that typically the deputies are only in town two days (and one night) a week, and that the real decisions are made elsewhere.

Second photo: Another view of the European Parliament building, from the other side.

In the North East of the city, some of the most famous european institutions, among which the Parliament stands for the democratic evidence of the New Europe, glint and fill us in with deep respect.

    Building of European Parliament
Well, in my humble opinion, I doubt that there are a lot of things to see inside the building. Construction itself is very interesting and futuristic from outside. One can buy a lot of handicrafts and ecological food of the region around the entrance to the Parliament. On some days there is a small fair; we bought some cheese and honey, was very tasty.

This is an very unusual building (home to unusual people with unusual ideas). Which is worth a visit to say that you have seen it, there is no much to do there except view the building the inside the courtyard as it is hollow.

Well looking at the tax I pay these days I'm pretty sure I paid for most of this building, sure it looks impressive but they didn't even ask me inside!

A must see, especcially for EU citizens. It is bigger than it actually looks on the picture...
What really fascinated me is the little "forest" on the top of the building.

If you're smart and don't leave your passport behind by mistake, you can visit the European Union complex and see the government in session. This is where it all happens!
