Hotel St. Christophe - for some unknown reason, our chaperones on EuroTour decided this would be a good place for a bunch of exchange students to stay. I must say, watching the prostitutes coming and going on the street below was most educational. Additionally, and I don't know if I dreamed this, I got up at midnight and went to the window and upon looking out, saw a group of people dressed in old fashioned costumes doing a bizarre dance in the square below. This remains one of the freakiest things I ever saw in my life.

I don't remember which art gallery this was, but if you go to one with a big horse-thing out the front, beware of a particularly small member of the gallery staff. She is rather overzealous in ensuring that you do not go within 5 metres of the exhibits.

This town is way overcrowded during the Christmas season. My day was one of fights(in the must see Church), and pizza stands almost getting knocked over by me and my fellow customers waiting in line from a stampeed, and helping a poor homeless women get up off the street where some people had knocked her down. Also a friend of mine got his pocket picked. If you want to see this beautiful town, dont go during during the holidays. In the church in which 2 different people actually got a bit ruff with me. Pulling my hair, and pushing me around. Just all part of the day...nothing I cant handle!! *g*

There is a new trend amongst youth in France: a game where they set cars alight. Apparently Strasbourg is top of the league in France for this entertainment so if you have an expensive car you might want a hotel with a garage...

Don't go through the covered bridge cause it smells a bit nasty... But you should enter it and go on the top of it... This is the only way to see Petit France from a higher place and top make some pictures.

There seemed to be a fair few vagrants hitting the bottle around Strasbourg, and although in general they did not bother us too much, we were spoken to by several of them and were gesticulated at once or twice. I'd say, just take the ususal precations around such people and cross the street before you reach them, if possible.

If you're a vegetarian, be warned there is little to cater for vegetarians in Strasbourg and Alsace as a whole. Meat dominates the menues and the only vegetarian dishes are those standards of the Italian restaurant, Pizza and Pasta with plain sauces. You could always eat cakes, of course, which abound in Strasbourg and are truly superb.
It is not yet a real danger...
It is not yet a real danger but late at night on Place Kleber there are many dealers so please don't disturb them...as the French police is useless.
You are warned!
Otherwise, Strasbourg is a safe town. Except in some buses if you see juvenile deliquency waiting for a fight!
My husband and I did a day...
My husband and I did a day trip to strasbourg. We had just crossed the boarder and saw a tourist info bureau. We decided to stop and get a map. We were parked across the street for less than 5 minutes and our car was broken into and our camera stolen. The police were of little help and the whole experience was a nightmare. We could not wait to get out of France! We will never go back!!!
The sheer beauty and "feel" of this lovely place is as intoxicating as that first, sweet kiss: you're simply not going to want to leave her.
