If you're a vegetarian, be warned there is little to cater for vegetarians in Strasbourg and Alsace as a whole. Meat dominates the menues and the only vegetarian dishes are those standards of the Italian restaurant, Pizza and Pasta with plain sauces. You could always eat cakes, of course, which abound in Strasbourg and are truly superb.
It is not yet a real danger but late at night on Place Kleber there are many dealers so please don't disturb them...as the French police is useless.
You are warned!
Otherwise, Strasbourg is a safe town. Except in some buses if you see juvenile deliquency waiting for a fight!
My husband and I did a day trip to strasbourg. We had just crossed the boarder and saw a tourist info bureau. We decided to stop and get a map. We were parked across the street for less than 5 minutes and our car was broken into and our camera stolen. The police were of little help and the whole experience was a nightmare. We could not wait to get out of France! We will never go back!!!
The sheer beauty and "feel" of this lovely place is as intoxicating as that first, sweet kiss: you're simply not going to want to leave her.
Lots of pick pockets so be on your guard. Keep all possessions close to hand and don't leave things unattended...apart from that you should be OK.
Beware of money in cars: our travel-bus was broken up in 10 min. in front of an guarded (!) hotel!!!
Don't loose your consciousnes looking up the beautiful houses and don't spend all of your money for souvenirs like me.
