    Looking back over the beach
    and waterfront
    by Jmill42
Up until forty years ago, Biarritz was basically the Monte Carlo of the France's Atlantic coast. Becasue of Napoleon, it was the hangout of all of France's wealthy, yuppie crowd. In 1960, though, the Côte d'Azur started to become the popular destination and left Biarritz's tourism industry like Japan's economy in the 90's. It has only been during the last 10 years or so that the city has started attracting those Parisian yuppies again, along with the dreadlocked surfers. With those two differing populations thrown together, it makes for a great nightlife scene.

An example of a Mickey Club

Sometimes, when you go on hilday, well...it's not always relaxing.. BUT!!!

    I HAVE THE SOLUTION!

Bring your kid to a "Club Mickey" beach club!

While your sunbathing, surfing or snoggin with your loved one your child can be having fun doing different sport activities, learning things and even win prizes for participation!
    :)

All this while supervised by competent and friendly staff!

So by the end of the day, both parents and children had the kind of fun they wanted withouth aggravating the other party.
    :)

Winning the Tug-o-war competition and comming back with a racket tennis as a prize!!
    :D

(yes.. I was the kid during that holiday..)

I have to warn you about biarritz:ok,the beach is very beautiful, the water is very cold, compared to the mediterranean sea;besides,it is a very small town, everything is dead at 7pm,except in summer, when it is not raining...

I live in biarritz because unfortunately my job is here;I really dislike this city which is so incredibly snobbish

Lors des couchers de soleil sur l'océan (et c'est toujours un spectacle fascinant), il faut être attentif au tout dernier rayon. par grand beau temps, si l'air est clair et limpide, le dernier rayon est vert émeraude !

At the time of the sunset on the ocean (and it is always a fascinating spectacle), it is necessary to be attentive to the last ray. by big good weather, if air is clear and limpid, the last ray is emerald green !

    Biarritz Airport

  • If you are travelling to this region , please be aware especially those who are not white coloured like me that the airport immigration control personnel
can be racist . I've travelled extensively all over Europe and this was my worst experience . I was the only asian on the flight to Biarritz that time and I was prejudge as being terrorist or maybe an illegal immigrant , even though i was holding a valid travel documents. I was on hold for more than 30 minutes before i was allowed to go . On second occassion , on my way back to UK , I was on a check in line full of European and suddenly 2 personnel came to me and asked me to bring all my things inside the room , while i was there , I was interrogated and searched but they found nothing . I was the only non white and the only person searched on that flight . All I can say that the Biarritz Airport employs IGNORANT and RACIST personnel not like in Paris where I never encountered such behaviour.

    Marbela beach
    by Klod5

Beyond the Coast of the Basques, the wild coast, bordered of rocks and carpets of reefs, short until the beach of Marbella. It is the Marbella villa, madness Spanish mauresque inspired of the Alhambra of Grenada, constructed in 1863 for Lady Bruce, who gave his/her/its name in the beach.
In this ostentatious villa surrounded with gardens, Lady Bruce welcomed Napoleon III there as well that the future king Edouard VII.
In 1891, after the death of the one that everybody called the Milady, her son will inherit the property, that he will rent before separating himself of it. It will deteriorate little by little and a storm gave him the coup de grâce in the years 50.
Purchased by promoters, it will be demolished in 1953 only letting its name in the beach toward which it had made converge the international gotha.

  • The Miramar Beach - Biarritz
    The Miramar Beach
    by Klod5

    Poste MNS :
    Tél : 05 59 24 34 98
    Juin, septembre : de 11h00 à 19h00
    Juillet et août : de 10h00 à 19h00

    Club enfant :
Club de Monsieur Brisson, 5 rue Louison Bobet.

It is located rightly under the Thalassa institute, constructs to the site of the old and sumptuous Miramar hotel (created in 1927) and that gave his/her/its name in the beach, one of the more in the fashion of the coast in the years 30. (It was called BERNAIN beach before.)
Facing the beach, the rock of the Frigate is colonized by the seagulls and the cormorants.
Of the beach of the Miramar, one borrows the strange passage rocky and humid Winston - Churchill to pass under the hotel of the Palace and to reach the Big Beach.
