If you've decided to walk under the gate and you don't feel like doubling back on your paces there is an alternative route. Continue to follow the path under the village walls until you come up at the little stream. Turn left here at the footpath. This one will take you back to the road just outside Castelmoron.

Underneath theMarie there are also 2 vaulted cellars that were used as jails. Very damp places and even though it was very clear outside we needed light here. It must have been aweful in the days it was used as jail. In the cells you can also see the holes that were the toilets. I was glad i could walk out again fairly quickly

Enter the Mairie and ask if you can see the cellars. It isn't indicated as a thing you can see or visit but if you ask for it, they'll probably show them to you. Apart from being a defense work, the cellars have been used as jails and i have to admit i felt sorry for the poor sods that were imprisoned here.
I think the mayor showed me around. But i forgot to ask if he was the mayor.

In both cells there were these kind of toilets. Though this one was the more elaborated one.

In the earlier days of castelmoron dAlbret the cellars were connected. That way people could more easily defend the village.
On the picture you can see the old doorway behind the stairs.
